Jonathan,
(Got the name right this time) You certainly are an example of "What does'nt kill you only serves to make you stronger"Could you talk about your prison time, did you mix with the other prisoners? What are the prison officers like? When your case is quashed next year are you hoping to return to TV/Radio?

Well Mart1, I had a fantastic time in prison.
I learned so much. At least 50% of inmates cannot read or write so I was very involved in helping them.
I spoke to everybody, many of whom nobody else would talk to.
I took over several positions and ran different areas such as the freezers, fruit and veg etc.
Someone had to do it!

I made many friends amongst inmates, officers, governors, chaplains, visitors and staff, from kitchens to healthcare.

I managed to help 12 individuals get their convictions quashed, appeals granted and immediate freedom by reading trial documents and spotting flaws and legal points.

I was Deputy Editor of The Insider - the HMP Maidstone monthly magazine which we mailed to many other prisons, editors, columnists, MP's and ministers.

I was a Wing Cleaner. I swam in the indoor pool doing 50 lengths a day.

I came out more tolerant, more patient, less selfish and far wiser.

And a great deal wealthier - nothing to spend money on inside, so my income grew as my expenditure dropped.

As for a return to TV and radio - I doubt it, even if my convictions are quashed. But we'll see.

The BBC should be begging you to get back in charge of their Eurovision efforts if nothing else.

Failing that, Derby County are looking for a new manager!

Don't joke about Derby - actually I reckon manager of a flagging Premiership club is the Holy Grail and McLeish has been very bright to take on Birmingham.

The job of a good manager is much like organising a Eurovision winning entry or any other task - inspirational, energy, intelligence, sensitivity... look how well Sven is doing at Man City.

If I were to be Derby manager (no chance) I'd proudly wear the mantle of the great, great Brian Clough and get them to the top.

Imagine Derby beating Arsenal, Man U and Chelsea to the top!!!

Oh dear, I seem to have steered a thread way off course again!

We have our new manager now, Paul Jewell, so I'll have to put my "King for Derby" chant on hold.

Seriously, I often wonder whether a great knowledge of football is essential in order to be a successful manager. A person with the qualities you described coupled with organisational skills and backed up with a team of coaching staff should be a recipe for success.

I'm not sure even the great Brian Clough could take the likes of Derby right to the very top in this day and age though. Things have changed in football since the 1970's. Wealth mattered then but now it is everything.
