The Golden Compass opens... 16 Years, 5 Months ago
if it's a tenth as good as the book it will be fabulous.

His Dark Materials got me through my first Christmas and New Year in Belmarsh Prison for crimes that never took place.

Philip Pullman Rools OK.

Agreed 100%.

I look forward to watching the film, but I will be surprised if it comes close to giving me as much pleasure as the books.

It's an easy story to make into a Disney style adventure, but to capture the essence of Pullman's writing is nigh on impossible, I'd imagine.

Agreed Anthony but it should be fun finding out how well they do it - Pullman himself seems happy with it.

I'm considering it my birthday treat in a week's time.

A trip to the cinema for a birthday treat? how decadent. Surely bathing in the milk of a thousand flamingos would be more apt?

"The Milk of a Thousand Flamingoes"?

Interesting thought, great title for a book, but possibly in reality a high chance of guano infection on application, and probably best not to be tried.

I see religious groups are already getting into the predicted lather before they've even seen the film.

I understand the religious allegories have been watered down anyway. If so, that is a shame, as it is surely the key to the message behind the novels.

Very mixed reviews.

My viewing date has been postponed until the 11th.

I can hardly wait!
