if it's a tenth as good as the book it will be fabulous. His Dark Materials got me through my first Christmas and New Year in Belmarsh Prison for crimes that never took place. Agreed 100%. I look forward to watching the film, but I will be surprised if it comes close to giving me as much pleasure as the books. It's an easy story to make into a Disney style adventure, but to capture the essence of Pullman's writing is nigh on impossible, I'd imagine. I see religious groups are already getting into the predicted lather before they've even seen the film. I understand the religious allegories have been watered down anyway.
