Tesco 3 Weeks, 5 Days ago
www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/whats-on/whats-o...ions-across-29803271

Tesco cafes are crap, to be honest, but it was good for a quick cuppa.

I only use cash. If you don't use it you will lose it. Many traders prefer cash and small coffee shops. My record dealer will give a small discount if you use cash, there are no fees to pay out and he does give a percentage to local charities.

I do use the busses because fares are capped, yet, I see numerous people who can't travel because there is no money on the card or card machine is playing up. Sometimes there can be a terrible signal in the village, so your smartphone or watch is useless. I just sit there and gloat and look smug. Same with car parks, I use the ones that accept cash.

Not always but sometimes I do get paid in cash, I still get the odd cheque here and then but those are rare. My local farm shop is cash only, as they put money back into the farm and business. There are no bank fees.

Simple solution and answer

Use a credit card - TOTALLY free

In the US, EU - everywhere

Different currencies, all without cost

What businessman or traveler won't use a credit card?

ONE CONDITION - pay the balance on time. Often 6 weeks later.

I still use cash quite often, just to keep it alive really. I often see queues at the local Sainsburys for the cashonly self-service tills as people want to pay cash. On the buses I use the app so I can just show the ticket on my phone which saves time. I guess there is an overhead for shops to have to pay securicor to take the cash away and bank it, but its only a tiny percentage of there overall profit. Often at bars the young cashier will have the card machine ready to go, and then I pull out cash and they are thrown by the situation. After the recent crowd strike incident I think its still important to keep cash alive. Recently at Greggs and superdrug they were accepting cash only due to their wifi been down.

This is why I dont go in Mcdonalds any more. They dont take cash and you have to push the buttons and have the damned thing beep in your face, and you cant tell it to put double the tatare sauce on your fishburger.
Tesco can sod off too.

It's an outrageous decision by Tescos and i hope they lose customers.

The dominance of technology is a real problem.

I never receive paper bills now as I am expected to pay everything online and there are few telephone receptionists available to assist especially when your pc crashes.

There was a bakery that was card only. Long story short they didn't last long.

I hate having a card reader thrown towards me. I'm not part of the sheeple. I always pay cash when I can. When there was an an IT glitch in the town centre, shops were saying it's cash only. The young people looked puzzled and went all huffy. I guess basic mental mathematics is too much of a challenge.

During the plandemic shops that refused to my hard earned cash, didn't get my custom.

I understand people's feelings as we should have choice, and these big companies do not put customers first. But personally I never carry cash; swiping a card is so much more convenient. While not suggesting that you are all elderly ( ) I think the Gov should do something to protect that demographic.

This is the future. In the US, they've gone a step (or two) further.

You can walk into a supermarket, take the items you require from the shelves - and walk out with your bag full.

No human interaction takes place.

All items are chipped and identify the customer selecting them - by communicating with the individual's personal pocket fob.

When signing up for the system, the personal fob is supplied - after the new customer provides ID and credit card details.

When the customer arrives home, their credit card will have been charged - confirmed by an email, with an itemised shopping list.

Saves time and money....

My position on this is simple - use both. Indeed - all. Cash, cards, crypto, phones - there is no reason why ALL cannot continue hand in hand with the huge advantage that then, when one collapses, there are alternatives.

If needed some bartering, I will swap my partner for Mr Honey's shed contents.

No, but it's like buying petrol at Asda. Our species isn't required. Buttons and card!

Even cars (including mine; for parking only) are legally driverless in the UK.

Gatwick trains/London Underground ones too!

Same reaction as when vending machines arrived - and now when most airline pilots are asleep!

By using cash as actual physical coins and notes it keeps you grounded in the actual value of currency and what you are actually spending, and hopefully realising the value of what you are parting with.

Completely agree. I find the push to digitalise everything and ditch more traditional methods annoying, foolish and discriminatory. Not everyone has a credit card and not everyone can afford or has a smartphone or fully equipped home office that functions perfectly 24/7.

My phone is a smartphone but it's a basic one and hardly has any memory, it's lags and the browser will shut off when it crashes. It's not high res also, so scanning QR codes does not always work it's pot luck when it does.

The What3words app is what I use when I am hiking, so I can show my partner where I am, when I am out for hours.

My phone is for only making calls or Whatsapp nothing else.

I can't argue with Rich's logic a £20 note will always be a £20 note, if it's CBDC the banks wiil take some. So £20 is only £20 on a screen.

For about £40 extra - your smartphone will be revolutionised/upgraded massively.

There's no logic whatsoever in having a basic dysfunctional one - in a fast changing world.

I've a top notch one - primarily to ensure that important business calls are quickly answered, when on the road.

A phone like yours would simply lose me money.

To run a business (if you have one), you must be always available/contactable.

Only question is android or ios - the deals available are amazing. £5pm?
