It's about control, smokers pay a heck of tax on their sticks.
Beer gardens are outside hence the name with fresh air.
Pubs are already struggling, numerous pubs have closed for good. 2 near me are being converted into bedsits. As they landlords couldn't afford the bills and staff despite getting customers.
I was asked last year if I would be interested owning and running a pub again. I had to laugh at the idea off, nothing would make me go back into hospitality.
If the government want to improve people's health they need to form UHP food and remove aspartame.
I like to know what is in vapes even in the imports vapes that many dodgy shops sell. I rather inhale second hand smoke than than the sickly aromas caused by vapes. People can't wait to get off the bus or trains to inhale on a vape, they are worse than ciggie smokers.
Will tea and coffee be banned, it does feel like that coffee is becoming a rich man's drink nearly a tenner for a jar.
You don't see many puffing on a pipe or chomping on a cigar these days.
Many in the pub game are awaiting Wetherspoons' move; with c800 outlets they're one of the biggest players - and the most successful.
Spoons banned smoking in their pubs, before the government passed the legislation. And it is thought that the ban will soon apply in all parts of their properties. Like dogs.
On my occasional Spoons visits, I enjoy the lack of music/dogs, and the free coffee refills. But dislike, with a vengeance, having to enter through a smoker occupied doorway.

I knew Tim Martin many, many years ago. I couldn't stand him.
He had close several Spoons pubs to have the hand, people's habits are changing. I hate coffee from machines. Spoons pubs have no life in them TBH. It's either drunks, dolers at the weekends it's people who have no where to go so they hog the bar, or try and chat up the bar maids. There is a biker's bar near me which is lively and there is never any trouble.
I wonder how many people have buyer's remorse like the lady in the video?
Good point, people who took part in the riots didn't stab people. Rioter's needed community service and fine for punishment. Then again they are probably looked after better inside and free meals, showers, heating and TV.
I was brought up in a pub by my lovable for nearly 2 years when my mother was very ill.
This was in the day when they really faced little competition but tentertainment for citizens has exploded and competition is a nightmare. Life in a pub then was like the Rovers Return.
But even then my aunt and uncle worked long unforgivable hours with terribly hard work while presenting themselves to the public as amiable hosts.
If people wish to smoke in public let them but let's develop some head covering receptacle which traps the smoke, and the owner can safely dispose of it later in their own home.

The risks for passive smokers outside is negligible, if not completely non-existent. This law is all about people showing their disdain for people that have made a choice to be a smoker. Also if a smoker dies of lung cancer in their 50s, they would probably cost the NHS a lot less, than if they lived to 90 with multiple conditions, as most people do at that age. Its even more ridiculous that this ban also includes vaping, which is essentially water vapour. This will be another incremental hit on the hospitality industry. It won't affect Wetherspoons much as most of there pubs are in town or city centres with no beer gardens.

I prefer tobacco smell's rather than sweet, sickly clouds smell's of vape.

Oh so do I. It feels like an assault to be suddenly enveloped in sickly strawberry pong.

Not forgetting the cloud smoke it seemed to drift away easier than vapes, which goes in a long trail. If it's not strawberry, it's other sweet smells like a candy shop. It's funny when a crowd of yobs are puffing away acting 'ard and smelling of little girl's bubble-bath.
