Killing the pubs to please certain religous groups and turn pubs in to bedsits or flats.

Starmer, wanted to kill humans meeting and greeting during lockdown, he wanted a tougher lockdown.

If pints were smaller they will be the same price and poor quality. In some pubs some landlords are crafty, there is a knack on not pulling a full pint but looking like it is one.

Pubs are closing at an alarming rate, with many more becoming virtual restaurants. Wetherspoons - the formula driven outlets - are the only ones bucking the trend.

Cheaper booze is available in supermarkets, and drinking at home has become more popular. No longer the centre of the community, pubs are also becoming homes.

Twelve years ago - in a Surrey town near me - there was 11 pubs; now there's 2. One a Wetherspoons - opening at 8am; the other opens at noon, and doesn't serve food.

You do get the sense he would just close pubs down if he could. He is a real bore.

I actually think the closure of community pubs has been devastating for society. In this country we have nothing to replace it, no coffee shop culture and no (Christian anyway) real church going.

I agree there is a church near me that is nothing more than a woke community centre.

A lot of Spoons are going Barney, I hate them and the food gives me flashbacks of school dinners. I like the idea that non-alcoholic booze is becoming popular in boozers but they are still expensive. A pint is now near the same price as a jar of coffee. Where I live there is only 1 pub.

Starmer goes to the VIP boxes etc to watch football, when celebs, Royals and former PMs have sat with the fans A.K.A. plebs.

In many UK towns/cities, the Wetherspoon has filled the role of community centre - open at 8am for breakfast, socialising etc. You pay just over £1 for a cup of excellent coffee, and can have unlimited refills.

Always in the centre - occupying a former bank, department store, or church - the c800 Spoons have filled a social need for many. Soon to open a hotel (they have 55) in Newcastle, after a £5m investment there!

Not everyone's choice - they do things their way. And banned smoking inside before the government - as well as music, dogs, sitting at the bar, darts, pool etc. New recent additions in Waterloo, Marlow and Greenwich.

Tim was probably scared of drunken twats throwing darts at each other and using pool cues and balls as weapons.

I am shocked that the one Swindon is closing, the pubs fits the town a shit hole.

Wetherspoons share price is key - it even passes Warren Buffett's litmus test!

I am not surprised the one in Swindon is unpopular. They knocked down a beautiful Victorian pub and replaced it with that horrid box.

The only Spoons pub I know in Swindon is The Savoy - a magnificently converted 1930's art deco cinema.

Spoons are know for saving historic buildings, which would otherwise be lost in this modern era.

Here are a few:-

- The Royal Opera House, Tunbridge Wells

- The Hamilton Rooms, City of London

- Velvet Coaster, Blackpool

- Winter Gardens, Harrogate

All refurbished/renovated and saved by Spoons - and given new leases of life!

50 pubs close a month, I have witnessed it, and the pub trade has never recovered since the lockdowns. Two old village pubs which are about 8 miles away, both have closed near the same time and are now being converted into bedsits.

We should not forget that the profit margins are not very big. £8 per pint in some places does put people off but if they sold them cheaper they will be running at a loss. The only affordable option for some is to order bottled beers/lagers at the bar.

Bottled wine is nearly £20 but you can get the same wine in the supermarket for about £5-£8.

The Royal Opera House in Royal Tunbridge Wells is now a Wetherspoon - who have very closely followed the listed building regulations, at enormous expense.

A rare and fantastic venue - which still has live operas performed on stage, every year. Look down on Spoons, if you wish - but NOT on them all....

The patrons are probably too piss to even care about the opera and there are faux snobs like you see at Royal Ascot.

According Trip Advisor the Spoons in Tunbridge Wells is very average.

TripAdvisor all you've got? 😃

Here's another Spoon.

Perhaps the largest and busiest pub in Britain.

Actually on the beach - never been there either?

Or to any of the other award winning venues..

I do use Trip Advisor a lot, I find it pretty accurate when looking at hotels and going to restaurants near the hotels.

This may help you find a decent pub - and not have to rely on flawed review sites.

I think pubs close too early as it is, to be honest. Closing any earlier could mean more drinking in the parks and alleyways. Drinking at home is ok but should we try to discourage lonely drinking? Stella Artois (tastes revolting) was dubbed Wife Beater for many years by the police and landlords. When people went to sort out domestic abuse the police always saw cans or bottles of Stella.
