100%. And a very good friend allegedly. Kenneth Williams adored her. They were 'Soulmates'. Great interview on Parkinson with Dame Maggie, Williams and Sir John Betjeman.

Very private person.

But 'outstanding, strong and genius' would be massive understatements.

In her case...

I was not a fan of her works but she knew how to project her voice, there was no mumbling or OTT fake accent.

The actor's job is to become someone else.

Mag had more options than Olivier.

Becoming a Queen, an addict/confused or a pompouse fool

She is mentioned a lot in the diaries. I wouldn't call them soulmates though. In the late 70s and early 80s, KW pushed everyone aside apart from his mother, yet she was becoming a burden on him. KW, was friends with a gay couple pretty much of the blue he told them not to come round anymore, it was becoming too domestic. KW needed a slap for that.

If KW didn't kill his father then Louie did

Many brilliant performances but I am going to re watch The Lady In The Van this week, because I love her performance, and the compassion of Alan Bennett, who allowed the real Lady In the Van to live in his driveway.

The Coroner's 'accidental death' verdict was wrong then?

If he had that much compassion, then wouldn't he let her stay in the house and not in a van in the driveway.

From memory Robbie I think she wished to livr in the van. But even so, I don't think his reaction would be typical today...
