The laws need to change for reckless and callous drivers. This woman now has a life sentence and does her poor family. How about the lad loses a deduction in benefits or wages to support the woman he has paralysed?

Well what a depressing story that is. Poor woman. In my world I wouldn't let anyone drive before 21. And the test would be a lot more rigorous.

I'd suggest an old Irish terrorist punishment that the IRA are alleged to have used during their campaign - Kneecapping.

Excuse me, but I did a double take on that jail sentence. 2 years and 2 months! Out in about a year. For paralysing a woman for life. Set that against the recent 3 year terms and more for middle aged and older first time offenders for a mere silly comment on twitter. How can you get less for destroying another person's entire life forever more than for a quick type up and then delete on the internet.

I wouldn't allow driving until 24 when the brain stops growing. And mandatory tests for the over 70. But this would lose votes, so it won't happen.

I don't mean it in a horrible way, but what happened to the poor woman is irrelevant.

It happened because the idiot committed a crime, therefore he should be punished for the crime itself, not if someone was injured or not.

Otherwise, it is the same as saying "nobody got hurt, so let him off".
