TOPIC: Assisted Dying - I'm on the fence

Assisted Dying - I'm on the fence 2 Weeks, 2 Days ago
It is one of the very few topics I cannot make my mind up about - both sides have good points.

God is in favour of assisted dying. From the moment we are born He's helping us on our way.

More seriously though, I think that assisted dying is already going on within the hospice movement. I've seen this first hand with my own young father who had his food withdrawn a week before he passed from a very aggressive glioma brain cancer, thus assisting him on his way. It's subtle but is happening. Just half an hour before he passed a hospice doctor had got wind on my view about removing nourishment to patients like my him and called me in to explain what I considered to be starving patients to death on purpose.

Call it what you like, assissted dying or euthanasia, it's all the same thing isn't it, and it's been going on for years in semi-secret.

Yes me too. I just can't fully comfortably accommodate either position.

I would like to die by the way nature chooses. I wouldn't want to die in a hospice but in my bed surrounded by my pets even the goldfish. Then have a pauper's funeral soon after. We are only a spec of dust if you think about it.

Imagine euthanasia (voluntary or otherwise) being available for this lady.

I'm fully in favour of assisted dying, and it shouldn't just be available to people who have 6 months to live. It should be available to anyone that wants it. Suicide is the most common form of death for men under 50. Many very elderley people stop eating towards the end of their life and have to go through terrible hunger at the end. I think they should have the option for a less painful quicker death. Also people with locked-in syndrome who have almost no movement in their body and can do nothing for themselves. They have zero quality of life and also should be able to get out of their living hell. People always used the extreme 1 in a million cases where someone has made a dramatic recovery.

I agree with cases like locked-in syndrome or MS. Suicides in men to be discussed in a mature and grown-up way. The media ridicule it and laugh it off. We know the media hates men particularly straight White men.

I hate the term "Man UP". Everyone is a paycheque away from being homeless, women do cheat, and many fathers are bringing up someone's child and the mothers don't say. From my experience, women cheat more than men do. If a man is seeing a much younger woman he gets called a creep or a nonce, if women do it they get a pat on the back from their friends and co-workers.

The undertakers are probably pleased the bill has passed, more money for them.

We find them stupid.

When women do bag a toy boy they do get congratulated. Men are looked at as seedy.

I don't think that think that it will make any difference to undertakers because, the people are still going to die, but just a little bit earlier than before. I don't see much difference between the DNR directive (do not resusitate) and assisted dying.

Nurses put DNR on forms without consent.

When women become rich and powerful, they often go for younger good looking men, e.g. Madonna, J-Lo, Kylie, and Joan Collins. Men generally aren't' interested in older women, unless they want them for their money or power, just like women.

When I was in my early 20s, I did date a few women in their late 40s.

I will admit they didn't last for long, they like the experience of younger men but most went with men closer to their age, when the fun wares off.
