Countdown 16 Years, 4 Months ago
Just wondered if there are any other avid Countdown viewers on here apart from me and Anthony?. If so - what do you think of Craig Beevers, number 1 seed - he's in the final tomorrow.

Best most consistent all rounder ive ever seen. Watch tomorrow - i'm sure you'll see a masterclass!

Love Countdown but gone off it a lot since O'Connor took over.

Funnily enough another Connor (Reeves?) was brilliant but clearly hated all the attention.

I've missed a lot of this year but will be glued tomorrow.

It's never really been the same since poor Richard Whiteley was cruelly taken away. I liked Des Lynam's laid back style, and I agree that O'Connor was perhaps the wrong choice. Wogan would have been perfect, or maybe even someone like Tarbuck would have been more suited for the job. Or even Ronnie Corbett!!!

My experience of Tarbuck is that of a deeply unpleasant and rude man. He's also rather disliked in the comedy world for knicking others gags.

I agree with you both - Richard always was and always will be the King of Countdown. Des O Connor has improved quite a lot since his earlier days and doesn't come across anywhere near as rigid.

Agree JK Conor was an awesome talent but i'd stick my neck out and say that this guy Craig tomorrow is a tiny fraction better - he's a dour character but you've got to admire the sheer brilliance of the man.

The usual masterclass as predicted - i did well to even live with him today playing along lost 92-105! Beat the other guy 98-88. What a player!

Well done JK! I played out of my skin, would have beaten any other player today getting ammonite, operants, outrange and maximum points on numbers and still lost by 13 - some player that guy is!!!

That jeffrey guy is autistic which goes some way to explaining his over excitable and obsessive behaviour.

Oh dear, I played along and lost 44-105 against the winner and 71-101 against the loser. Sorry to use your website to save myself the price of a text, JK, as Glen and I usually exchange our results that way! Perhaps deciding to play it at 2am, having hosted a cheese and wine (and Eurovision!) evening and quaffing about three bottles of wine wasn't the best timing!

As for the presenters, I loved Richard Whiteley, but I love the show so much, I would probably still watch even if Max Clifford was presenting it!

I think maybe you were a bit harsh in your dislike for Jeffery, JK. I think he's somewhere on the autistic spectrum, and his Countdown adventure was perhaps the highlight of his life.

Glen may or may not thank me for revealing this, but he reached the quarter finals of Countdown as a teenager, long before I knew him. We often play against each other. I remember with relish the 5 occasions on which I beat him, but have absolutely no recollection of the 200 times I was trounced!

Ah yes, I hadn't sussed the autism thing and now you reveal it, I retract my criticism!

Still love the show but though I thought Lynam was a superb replacement I really find O'Connor (who I like and respect as an entertainer and person) completely wrong.

I think they should have given Carol the main job.
