Christmas TV 16 Years, 4 Months ago
The highlight of Christmas Eve TV was Ken Dodd on BBC2. He's one of the few surviving Comedians who make me laugh. I didn't have to rely entirely on my DVDs as with previous years, although I did bring out one of my favourites - Deholm Elliot's 'A Child's Christmas In Wales'.

The Midnight Mass from Worcester was a bit stuffy, but that's usually just background while we get our prezzis organised. Pity the BBC used virtually the same service for their Christmas Morning output. The morning one is better being lighter and from a smaller venue, but that would mean extra work, and they only have 12 months to get organised.

Some of the movies are ok. Tim Allen's 'The Santa Clause' has become a favourite.

I give marks to the TV companies for not putting out home makeover shows at Christmas like they did two years ago. Last Christmas Eve BBC2 showed a repeat of a repeat of a repeat of 'Flog It' during peak time. Such a lack of effort was inexcusable, and they probably realised that. Arena's Ken Dodd special was in that same slot and much more suitable for the festive mood.

However, overall, Christmas TV is not what it used to be. Possibly because the producers know that most people watch DVDs - although the reason we watch DVDs might be because of the poor TV output. Hmm .. catch 22 - kind of.

One of the best things on Christmas Morning TV this year has to be .....

SHAUN THE SHEEP!!!! (Nothing to do with Christmas but great fun.)

I have to agree entirely with you TC. Christmas TV is certainly not what it used to be. I have freeview in addition to the 5 terrestrial channels and I have still been channel hopping most of the day with nothing really catching my attention.
I think I'm going to put my Only fools and horses DVD on.
Merry Christmas folks!

Penny Keith, Tom Hanks and Dickens 16 Years, 4 Months ago
The high point of my Christmas Day TV was Penelope Keith in "To the Manor born". Very much in keeping with the old series. It was like it had never been away.

Boxing Day TV high point was the movie "The Terminal". Seemed to be such a restrictive idea but turned out to be well written with remarkable depth.

Watching The Old Curiosity Shop right now. Not one of my favourite Dickens books, but Derek Jacobi rarely disappoints.

Toby Jones is magnificent as Quilp, rightly stealing the show. And isn't the girl who plays Nell gorgeous?
