Happy New Year and TV 16 Years, 4 Months ago
Would like to wish JK and the rest of the messageboard a belated happy new year.

On New Years Eve, I did something I hadn't done for a number of years and stay in.

Normally, I would tape Jools Holland and watch it in on New Years Day, but for the first time I watched it live.

Although I always think it's a bit of a love-fest, with all his showbiz mates watching it from the side, the music is always impressive. The new acts of Kate Nash, Mika and Adele have great talent. Madness are always entertaining as were the Kaisers. Kylie and Paul McCartney were good as always. Ruby Turner and the Rhythm and Blues Orchestra are always tight and delivered as always. But the old man Seaside Steve was superb with his guitar and stole the show in my view.

The only thing it lacked was something different or original.

Take That New Years Eve programme was okay (watched on New Years Day) but spoilt by Kate Thornton's constant interrupting.

Apart from that Xmas TV was substandard. Meet the Fockers was very amusing, as was Shrek 2, but apart from Doctor Who nothing captured me and I found myself watching the whole of my Life on Mars DVD for Series 1 through various intervals.

I was quite disappointed when I learned that Jools's Hootenanny is recorded in November. I suppose they all have other stuff to do at New Year.

I think you'll find it was recorded on 20th December. Not sure why it's taken 7 years or so to realise the show is recorded. I've avoided it because of that. I have no problem with shows being recorded, but I don't believe it's right that they them try to pass the show off as being live. That's dishonest!

The recording is "live" I suppose that's how they blag that one.

Always found Holland's shows worthy but dull.
