Our local team has just gone bust and as a result have had ten points deducted by the football league for doing so, ensuring relegation as well.
How very typically British to be kicked when already down.

There have always been two main cups and several leagues. Carling are the sponsors of what used to be known as the League Cup. The league referred to is now, as you seem to have noticed, classed as several leagues whereas once they were divisions within the same league, but it's only the name that's changed. The structure remains the same, with clubs being promoted or relegated. The changes in names are mainly due to TV and big business sponsorship. I much prefer watching the lower leagues because their footbal is like it used to be - all guts and grit with very few fake injuries. Notice how the Barnsley captain, instead of chasing the ref around the field, got on with the game and scored his goal directly after he thought he'd been fouled. That's what surprised the Liverpool players.

Ah, well, Mart, you can blame Leicester City for that. They were short of money and put themselves into administration a few years ago. This proved an advantage to them, as they were able to operate on a more beneficial financial footing, and were promoted whilst other teams that struggled on with no money for players declined. Any team after that going into administration has had an automatic 10 point deduction.
