Football thread - the FA Cup 16 Years, 1 Month ago
It's always good to see the under dogs get through; bad luck Chelsea and Man U but surely that David James save deserved to give the win to Portsmouth?

Very pleasing indeed those FA cup results yesterday, great to see Man Utd knocked out in those circumstances when they've been awarded so many dubious penalties and decisionsto win games in the past.
Ronaldo has only himself to blame for the penalty incident, if he didn't cry wolf so many times, maybe referees would give him more decisions.
Added interest for me is that my team, West Brom are in the Quarter finals today and should they win, what a chance to make the final with no Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or Man Utd. Great for football this particular FA Cup has been.

But who is the best English player, JK? I think Darren Huckerby has been one of our great underrated talents but he's getting on a bit now, so my vote would go to Theo Walcott.
Ronaldo has skill, but he's not a great player because great players don't need to cheat. Torres blows hot and cold. When he's on form he's excellent, but otherwise he's hardly noticeable.
My team Middlesbrough play today. I have a feeling that Cardiff might beat them.
After yesterday's performance, I'd like to see Barnsley lift the cup at Wembley.

After years of predictability, it's been great to follow this year's competition.
I'd love to see one of the non-Premiership teams lifting the Cup, and since Glen will be reading this, I'd better go for West Brom!
It's hard to argue with JK about Ronaldo being the best player in the country right now. His record speaks for itself, but he'll never have my respect with his constant cynical cheating.
The best player I've seen at Pride Park so far this season was Steven Gerrard. Derby would have beaten Liverpool that day without his input. Man Utd and Arsenal are yet to visit us though.

Great win from WBA Glen but I probably have to root for Cardiff since David Jones went through similar problems to me (with, rumour has it, a similar public relations person involved)... mind you, after watching all the games, little Barnsley has a lot of support due... and there was that marvellous save from David James - I think I'll cheer for all four!

I was going to come on here tonight and say exactly the same thing- JK, and all other posters whose teams have been knocked out should back Cardiff City for exactly that reason!
I'm Cardiff born and bred (though haven't managed to attend as many games as I'd have liked this season) but Dave Jones has done an excellent job under difficult circumstances.
With the club's well- documented financial difficulties, Dave hasn't had the funding to go out and buy players, and there have been times this season where he hasn't had enough players available to fill the sub's bench.
Some fans were calling for his head earlier in the season, but I promise you there were no complaints from me!
Incidentally, some of the disgusting taunting Dave has to put up with from away "supporters" regarding the court case is disgusting. Thankfully they are a small minority, but they are very vocal.

My dark horse would be W.B.A who are the best side in the Championship, but to echo JK's sentiments, David Jones is a very good manager.
He was doing well at Southampton and got given gardening leave to sort out the legal issues. When the case was thrown out, the Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe didn't re-employ him and he paid Jones off, quite disgusting the way he was treated.
And it was the same PR guy (you go to for counselling) that was involved in bringing this case to court.
If I remember rightly, his case was thrown out in the first week due to lack of evidence and unreliable witnesses and accusers. Sounds very similar in some respects to JK's case, only he didn't have a very good judge.

As I predicted, my team were woeful and well beaten by Cardiff. We hardly threatened the Cardiff goal and looked entirely diinterested throughout. I have no sympathy for my own team. If you put in no effort, you deserve no return.
At least Man Utd and Chelsea made their opponents work.
