drug trafficking and consumption..shouldn't The Pope have been a little bit more specific with his sins ?. This could include drug companies, GP's and patients.

also "pedophilia"..which we know is a word incorrectly used these days. How is that to be assessed...using Italy where the legal age is 14, Monaco 15, UK 16, Vietnam 18 ??.

But I agree with "accumulating excessive wealth" and "inflicting poverty" but wasn't Jesus saying all that 2000 years ago ?.

Benedict's a bit slow off the mark.

I don't think it mentions paedophilia at all, Veritas, and as you say it could be hard to define (particularly as many believe that Mary was only 13 when she gave birth to Jesus).

Accumulating excessive wealth has alot more opportunity today than previously though.

Pleased to see that "violating fundamental human rights" is now considered a mortal sin - Hell will be very busy !

Might I suggest that a "violation of basic fundamental human rights" is banning someone from loving someone because of their gender?

Or aborting the foetus from a child rape victim, or giving condoms to large parts of Africa to stem the flow of aids.

ITK, it is also widely believed that Mary was a virgin. Does that mean God implanted Jesus into her and therefore, is God a pedophile?

If the two parties are in agreement then no rights are violated, are they?

Re - child rape victims (of which there must be very very few) .... how is killing another child helping the original person?

Re Mary - I suppose it depends on your defination of paedophile ! Marriage at 12/13 was the "norm" in those days (and still is in parts of the "backwater" USA, !)

I must be obsessed with it-I was sure I read he mentioned pedophilia or maybe I was reading the News Of The World and they were having another go at Gary Glitter.

Actually accumulating wealth isn't really that bad when you see someone like Bill Gates who is giving away 90% of his wealth.

According to one of the Dead Sea scroll scholars (whose name escapes me)..walking on water was a common thing for Rabbis to do..by building a small platform just beneath the water and Jesus incurred their wrath because he wasn't ordained..and a "virgin" was simply a girl who hadn't yet given birth but could be sexually active..so a virgin birth just meant her first child.

but what would I know ?

nb: and some Israeli archaeologist is now saying Moses was on LSD when he went up the mountain which explains why he saw burning bushes and such...could explain why he took his tribe of wandering for 40 years in the desert..following some drugged old hippie over every hill looking for paradise ! It's not like Israel is that bloody hard to find.

"accumulating excessive wealth" - I think this is the main one really. "Greed" as it was originally.

- Oil prices high: Greed
- Oil wars: Greed
- Waiting until the Earth is totally fucked to find new resources: Greed
- Creating poverty: Greed
- All the others, drugs, consumption etc.: Greed

Everything I can think of that is wrong with the world today is down to greed.

And what do we do about it? We put the worlds most greedy & selfish people on a pedestal to be idolised. People who make the Rich List should be shot. Instead they see themselves outside the top ten and work hard to accumulate more money they could never spend to improve their place on it. Pathetic.

How many people are famous purely because they're wealthy? Duncan Bannatyne, Peter Jones etc. All famous due to wealth.

And we're being taught to be the same. It's lunacy.

The exception proves the rule?

I wonder how many people died (eg of starvation) before he decided to become a philanthropist ?
