Max Clifford said he had received a call from a man claiming to have a "damning story that will bring down a top copper".
The publicist added: "He spoke with a northern accent and just that they were serious allegations and he wanted to know how much the story was worth.
"I told him he would need to prove whatever allegations he planned to make, but we never heard from him again."

Amazing how the name CLIFFORD crops up so often these days.

I wonder whether this is connected in any way to the (apparent) suicide of a Chief Constable?

from everything I've read..he sounded like a pretty decent copper. Just the kind they need. And probably the kind they didn't want.

Mmmm. We're now hearing that he was mentally unstable in recent days ... not sure whether that qualifies him for Met Commissioner (a job for which he was tipped) - or rules him out !
