who were the Piglets? 16 Years, 1 Month ago
Sadly I have another of my anorak questions for you JK

I got asked this question last week and realized I don't actually know who they were. I believe Barbara Kay was one. Can you please enlighten me ?

Yes Mike - they were three session singers and Barbara Kay did the lead (Mavis).
As they were in their 40's I made them sound like 15 year old scrubbers behind the bike shed.
The multi track had them all collapsing with laughter at the end of the session, shrieking "I can't believe I just did that" and other expressions!

a generous reply as always JK.

"Johnny Reggae" is certainly one of the most under rated cult records of the 60s/70s. Record dealers I know can always sell copies easily.

The cheapie cover versions on the Hot Hits/Top of the Pops/ Avenue LPs are hilariously awful.

Did it get on BBC Top of the Pops as a group performance or was it a Pan's People job ?

No the group never appeared (there was none) and we did a series of cartoons by Jack Oliver which were used as a makeshift video with me as Johnny Reggae (as on the sheet music)...

Look forward to a Piglets revival of interest in a couple of months... can't say more at the moment...

Was that that the same Barbara Kay who went on to become a feminist writer in Canada? Their Google pics look similar but ages don't match up as she'd be at least now on your reckoning.
