Help! A Monster in my bedroom! 16 Years ago
Just went into my bedroom and there was this ENORMOUS bee/insect - like a bumblebee but all black and three times the size (an inch long and wide).

I hate killing things and dumped Kleenexes on it. It was buzzing and throbbing like a clockwork machine - I chucked it out of the window.

What was it? Any ideas?

Possibly a rather hefty Robber Fly. They are black and larger than a bumble bee, although are not always as fat.

Nope - looked at Robber Flies on Google Images - ditto Bumble Bees and Hornets - this was far bigger and furrier than all.

No idea what that is.
The best source of pictures of wierd insect in the UK, is still the humble Observers Book of Insects.
We thought we had a scorpion once and it turned out to be a common black thing with a suitably uncommon latin name.

Did see the first two swallows of the summer today though.

It was almost like a spider except it was clearly a bee!

Not sure they are often seen in the UK though.

It's the new Eye In The Sky spy machine with tiny cameras that beems images back to Central ( or in your case the News Of the World or The Sun) to ensure you are not harbouring terrorists or illegal immigrants who will take our jobs , houses etc.

It's for your own security and it would have gone to every house in the street..if you have bothing to hide you have nothing to be afraid of..right ?
