Sadly I remember my beloved Mum calling me up a few years ago and saying "you've got to watch this new young Spanish kid - his name's Nadal".

He's going to set Wimbledon on fire. Again though we still havent got any British star to compete. Andy Murray? Do me a favour! Boring, no charisma, and NO stamina. Abroad they encourage kids of all ages, all backgrounds to play tennis...here we are still held back by the class system...and only the posh kids get to use the facilities... local tennis clubs still living in the past...doing their upmost to keep the riff raff out, and thus stifling the English game. Think British Tennis, and you immediately think of Henman, Cliff Richard, and Sue Barker. Terrific!! One of them isn't even a professional tennis player.

I hope JK agrees with me, and that we must get young boys to believe they can be the next Federer or Nadal, rather than the next Beckham. Some inner city kids have never ever played tennis.

Totally agree Henry; there is NO REASON why we should not find and train the next great global tennis champ.

My old school still has it's tennis courts which it leaves open for the local kids to use at weekends and holidays. If you look at Wimbledon junior players there are usually quite a few British boys and girls, but we the reality of tennis is that the competition is fierce and the need to eat often dominates the desire to play, so once they are older they go find a job that pays a wage. Only very few will ever make it to the top competitions.
