Munich is beautiful, but (very) expensive.

There was a great article about Munich in the NYT a couple of weeks ago:

"Quaint, grandfatherly, Munich

Well for any offended Germans in the North (and my second favourite city is Hamburg, probably for the same green trees, parks, lakes reason), I must admit I do love the whole of Bavaria; yes, there is a smugness and arrogance there (and the amazing German obedience characteristic).

Still I say, if you like good food, incredible cleanliness, enormous prettiness and all the best of Germany in my opinion - give Munich a try.

I love Hamburg and will always remember the incredible singing bar man, who for no apparent reason greeted a group of ten of us, all jet lagged, quite early in the morning whilst awaiting further aiport transition with a huge song, which he assumed we all knew.
Absolutely surreal. But fair play to him, he finished the whole epic as we stood there in astonishment!
I don`t think I would holiday there though, it`s always been a work place and the gigs are superb.

I lived way up in the north of Germany back in the 80's and made many a trip south to Hamburg to visit friends. The city has a wonderful atmosphere and feel to it which is difficult to put into words.

While you're there check out some of the Bavarian villages in the Alps - very pretty indeed.

I'm impressed by the amount of people who have checked out my diary on Munich in You Tube - it's in the top ten most viewed and highest rated already and it's only been up a day.

You could have played them your 1972 olympic anthem JK. they would have loved that

"Proud and strong we stand together......."

Indeed Mike and I've rereleased it via iTunes as The Official Olympic Games Theme 2008 because the current Chinese regime has so much in common with the Nazis.

Check out the You Tube video. It should make you smile.

Absolutely fantastic JK. I always wanted a video to go with that song. I can't wait to show my (German) mother-in-law !
