I can continue to wear my Germany cap (see my Munich diary) for another week with pride.
Sad to see Ronaldo out - I do hope he doesn't go to Real (I'd like to see him move to Chelsea).
Ballack on top form (great header).
Now a German/Turkey semi would be something (again, see my diary about Turks in Germany and can anyone explain why?).
But I'm getting really fond of both Croatia and Russia - two young, energetic, enthusiastic teams of kids who seem to love football.
You can't help but like them.
The Holland/Russia game promises to be a cracker.

I'm absolutely loving this contest.
Magic stuff.

Terrific game tonight. I'm delighted Germany won, and do not share your sadness at Ronaldo's departure!

Was great to see the Germans appoint someone called Herr Flick as coach for the night, in the absence of their regular boss. Who says they have no sense of humour?

Oh, and this helps to answer your query about why there are so many Turks in Germany, or at least how it all came about in the first place.

Thanks Anthony that explains a lot!

Now - tonight! I'm rooting for Croatia whose enthusiasm I love but I must say a German/Turkish semi would be magic and the turnaround against the Czechs was one of the great moments in this contest,
