I recall listening to Basil Brush being interviewed on the radio and wondering if the presenter was facing the puppet or just the guy who did the voice.

Listening to some of the DJs on radio these days I suspect most of them are glove puppets - with a corporate hand stuffed firmly up their bottoms.

I was asked to a show using a computer program only and suggested they get a robot.
Excellent tools, but not for use all the time to work with on a show.
Boring that is, without a vinyl deck and cd deck, I really would not want to work.
We hired a guy one night, who turned up with a laptop with ITunes on it and never spoke once.
Lest we forget that many skills in the industry are being abused by further puppets.

It still baffles me this.
Is Sweep not mute as well?
Well I`m sorry, if I get 1 hour of radio silence with canned laughter, I will lose the will to live!

My fave ever jingle on Radio 1, was the guys from Dr Hook, who were obviously rather , ermmm, jolly and said "Hey welcome to the Paul Burnette lunchtime show!...Yeah tune in and listen to Paul make a sandwich!"
Absolute class.

"Yeah! Tune into the Sooty show and, ermm, listen , to, a guy shuffling a hand up a glove puppet whilst a group of invite members of the audience laugh."

That`s entertainment............

Sweep squeakes. However, Sue talks. Or maybe Matthew Corbett is going to be the main host with bouts of imaginative silence representing Sooty.

Reminds me of the album that was issued in the '60's -
'Marcel Marceau's Greatest Hits'. Twenty minutes of silence on each side, followed by rapturous applause !!
I think that was also 'The Wit and Wisdom of Ronald Reagan' - same deal but without the applause !!

That`s wonderful Mickey, I am just going to see if I can get a copy from I Tunes!

The only thing better than a mime album, must be a mime MP3!

I have all the Chipmunks albums from the 60`s and when you play them at 16 rpm instead of 33, a very fine barbers shop quartet they were indeed!
Other daft rareties that I still have intact are a free "Noddy goes Shopping" flexidisc, which came with Ricicles in about 1968. ( a tragic tale in which Noddy gets his shopping nicked!Lol)
I have a lovely old Winnie the Pooh vinyl ep with a great tango on it called "Rumbly in my tummy", too.
(But how do THAT was really him either?)

This stuff probably has a very high value, but the heck would want it?

Please don't forget the greatest of all - Lick A Smurp For Xmas (All Fall Down) by Father Abraphart.

Oh I was SO witty in my youth.

Didn't Mike Batt make a silent record? And get sued for it (and lose) by another great composer?

I don`t know it was Mike Batt but somebody certainly was.

I have actually seen the silent piece performed by an orchestra.
It is quite remarkable how they all turn the blank pages over together, that is the art of that piece, keeping the discipline to read every blank bar in time as a group.
Personally, I think I would just busk it!

Sooty on the radio is one thing, but surely Denise, you're not trying to tell me Basil Brush isn't real, are you?

I can`t believe how long this daft thread is!

Is not our old mate Jez ,Basil Brush?

I don`t believe a thing a puppet says.
the persona is real, but the hands are mistrusting..............
