Devil May Care - the new "Bond" novel written by Sebastian Faulks "as Ian Fleming" is the biggest selling book in Britain at the moment.
I hated it after the first few chapters. It is like a Sean Connery Bond film, not like a Fleming novel at all.
Then I realised - I haven't read a Fleming novel since the 50s when I was a teenager - and I think I only read one or two then.
Rather like Agatha Christie - we know the stories so well but through films and TV, not the originals. Like most people know Dickens and Shakespeare the same way (not me as I was lucky enough to study English Literature at Cambridge and as a result fell in love with the words - and to this day reread a Dickens book a year).
As a result of this dawning on me I quite warmed to Devil May Care and ended up rather enjoying it.
