The Equals were at Number One and 'The Dark Day' descended on North East England. A cloud seven miles deep blotted out the sun around mid-day and hail the size of golf balls, along with thunder and fork lightening, caused structural damage across Yorkshire and Teeside. An elderly woman was killed by lightening in Northallerton. Half an inch of rain fell in less than ten minutes, falling so heavily it bounced 18 inches high. I remember it well even though I was only young.
Anyone else remember the storm? I don't think it effected the southern part of the country.
That`s interesting. I was 6 and living in the South, and hospitalised due to breathing problems and my parents blamed the Northern weather blowing down.
They always tell the tale and I had not heard anyone else mention it before.
