Laura Robson's British father was working for a British oil firm in Australia and the family were living there when she was born. When she was 18 months her father was transfered to Singapore, and then they returned to London when she was six.

Cliff Richard was born in India but he is definately British.

The BBC did mention several times that Annabel Croft was the last British winner of the junior event.

People who excel in sport as a junior do not necessarily make the transition into the adult world. Annabel peaked at 21st in the world. But the signs are good for Laura. She has been beating girls two or three years her senior which is a big thing at her age. She certainly handles the media wonderfully for a fourteen year old girl, from what I have seen of her interviews.
