Dr Who - Russell T Davies is God! 15 Years, 10 Months ago
Absolutely wonderful finale - I didn't understand a second of it but I loved it!

Russell is the new Spielberg (the old one seems to have lost it).

What an era, his rule over the franchise.

I look forward to his next excursion.

I thought it descended into a spoof of itself.

I think Russell T Davies still has two one off specials before Mr Moffat takes over for the next series.

Thanks for that post, JK. I loved it too and was thinking I had turned a bit thick in my old age for not understanding a second of it. I feel relieved now.

We cried like not the old adults we are!
Slightly embarrassing as we were on our way to a party!
It was just superb.
I`m thinking of watching it again but I fear it may spoil the moment.
The BBC are on a bit of a roll this week methinks.

I thought it tried too hard.
I did understand it, but I've been a Who-ite for forty years. The effects were very good, but the story was a bit so-so. The one saving grace was the wonderful over the top performance by Davros.

Amazing extremes of love and hate - but you cannot help but be impressed by what RTD has achieved.

I gather the ratings almost hit 10 million.

Eat your heart out Michael Grade.

I thought it was absolutely awful. Oh yes, Davies has split DW fans right down the middle. Many love it but just as many hate it.

I cannot argue with Davies' success, but I loathe what he's done/brought to the show - it's become a soap opera with too much emphasis on "relationships".

A Genius? God? No way. An OBE? What for? For casting the lamest actor to ever take the main role? For writing many of the worst scripts in the shows long history? For being a smug, self righteous egomaniac?

I am glad he is moving on... pity Tennant isn't going with him.

Let's not forget that Tennant is an actor following a script. He delivers the lines written for him, and follows direction. I think he's done a fair job with awful material.

On the subject of ratings, here's a bit of Dr Who trivia.
'City of Death' got 14.5 million in 1979. 'The Pyramids of Mars' got 13.7 million in 1976, and 'The Web Planet' got 12.6 million in 1965. A repeat of 'The Daemons' got 10.5 million in 1971, while it's original showing earlier in the year got 8.3 million. If we use the modern method of combined ratings 'The Daemons' got 18.8 million.

One must also remember that viewing figures these days don't mean as much as they used to in pre-internet times. Nearly 10 million viewers may had watched the transmission on Saturday night, but what about those who recorded it to watch later? Or the number of people who have downloaded it?

Like an increasing amount of people, I don't bother with TV anymore... I don't actually own a TV set because I download whatever I want to watch or see and watch it on my PC.

So it's impossible to put any kind of accurate figure on how many people actually saw that final episode.
