Des O'Connor To Leave Countdown 15 Years, 9 Months ago
This might come as welcome news for JK...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7522099.stm

Des is working on a new album... does the world really need a Des O'Connor album right now?

Now, all we need is David Tennant to quit Doctor Who...

Actually he has made some pretty horrid records. Send him down to me, in 12 hours I could make a classic using his voice.

Well I think I speak for many males assuming that I was on the show and asked for a ""p" please Carol ", which is misunderstood as a request for a letter from the board as opposed to a genuine appeal that I was actually feeling rather uncomfortable.

don't be mean !!

I saw Des in a cafe in Sydney a few months ago and I couldn't believe how great he looked for a bloke in his 70's. He was with his young wife and little son.

Carol's done a bolt too! Not wanting to sound ike a conspiracy theorist, but it is a bit coincidental.

I didn't like Des on it at all (I like him) but thought the other Des was brilliant.

Carol is fabulous of course but enuff is enuff.

Time for a change. Quite right too.

Someone wrote into teletext saying that there are no more white haired blokes called Des who could host the show. Actually, there is Bishop Des(mond) Tutu. He would certainly be different, and he has a witty sense of humour.

Go for it C4 !!

I didn't think Des O'Connor was a good choice, but having said that, he has kept the show alive and many do like him.

Carol's departure certainly means we will be in for a complete shake up. It's going to be rather odd without Carol.

No doubt bets are being placed and taken as for the replacements. No news as to who is in the running for it yet.

Any predictions? Nominees of who you think should take the hot seat?

Giles Brandreth to host and Alistair Darling doing the sums. Should be a hoot!

According to the MOS, Carole left because of a 90% pay cut.
I`m not very good at sums, but I think I worked that one out!

I would not be surprised to see John Barrowman and Myleene Klass taking over the show. They seem to be the current favourites of TV execs. If it's possible to squeeze them into yet another show, I'm sure it'll happen.

She earned a reputed 1.5 mill per anum doing sums!! That was a deal they could not entertain for ever. Vulgar amount in my opinion.

I think they should give the job to ME! The entertainment factor in the anticipation of waiting for me to spell a word correctly or get a sum correct would be so wonderfully English!
