Firstly, politicians, like it or not are celebs as well.
But, should they be guarded as a result of their position?
The situation which has hit the press today, has obviously been known about for quite a while by the colleagues and friends of , what can only be called the offender(s), or victims, or indeed a victim of someone finally putting his washing out in public, who had probably been not trying to do this for some time.
I am sure that a certain movie star, who did a walkabout in Leicester Square yesterday, is very happy that he did not run over the Arsenal FC squirrel on the way out, or he would have suffered in the press this morning, instead of being celebrated.
It makes you think?
Fame?
Who wants it....
(and I didn`t name anybody!)

Hi Martin

There is an obvious difference between fame-seeking celebs (who want the publicity when it suits them) and politicians who are elected on trust.

If those in political life tell lies (or hide the truth) when it suits them - how can they be trusted at other times?

There is a train of though that a politician's private life is their own business - in that case, if it's no one else's business except the wife's (who HAS been deceived, and whose trust HAS been betrayed) why have they kept it hidden for so long?????

What amazed me was?
How did he find the time to do it?
Surely it has to be one of the most busy jobs in the world?

I couldn't help thinking that the whole Clinton/cigar thing was pure manipulation. I don't think politicans' private lives should be used as a weapon. What do we know of what happens inside a couple? And I fail to see how it affects public office. The line that "if he/she is cheating at home, can we trust them" is spurious. Look what the family values approach has led to in the US: politicians that pat babies heads while sending the elder brothers to what was almost a world war (and unjustified). So I'd leave off the politicians' lives. It's largely irrelevant.

Do you not feel, that in the political world, these things are leaked at a time to suit everyone around the gossipee themself?

Doubtless. Profumo, anyone? But if we showed less interest, there would be less political capital to be made out of it.

Of course the whole Clinton thing was a set up. Sorry to be crude but if someone spunked on my dress it would be straight to the dry cleaners with it. But no, this one sat soiled in a wardrobe for months. I hold no brief for Prescott but why can't we be more like the French, excellent nation, and leave what happens in the bedroom behind closed doors.
