Again, thanks for another interesting glimpse of "Good Evening".
There was a resurgence in Rock and Roll in 1968 and the "old" rockers became big name draws again, partly as a reaction against "flower power". Looking back at it now, yes, it may had seemed absurd in 1968, but given that rock and roll as we know it began in 1954, it was the first time the cycle of nostalgia reared its head. Music had gotten so adventurous during 1967, there were a great many who hated it and longed for much simpler times.
Look at how much music in 1968 seemed to go "back to basics" with the likes of The Band, Bob Dylan, various acoustic acts getting much attention and of course The Rolling Stones ditching the whole flower power trip and getting back to basic rock and roll with "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and the "Beggars Banquet" album. And in January 1969 The Beatles embarked on the ill fated "Let It Be" venture where they went back to basics and spent a lot of time jamming on old rock and roll faves.
Amused by that rockers dismissal of soul and blues both genres of which were very dominant during that era. So, a great little time capsule that taps into all that was going on in music at the time.
Great to see Carl Wayne. Great singer and performer and from all I have read, an all round top bloke. Recordings and archive footage are testament to the man's professionalism. He is very much missed.
Thanks again JK!
