TOPIC: So .... the Olympics are over

So .... the Olympics are over 15 Years, 8 Months ago
Will I miss the games? Not a bit ! Did it chance my life? Well - as I never watched any of it, I doubt it !

What have we learned? Well, Britain is apparently very good at things which are not really Olympic sports eg Cycling (can someone please tell me what use cycling round a large scalextric track is?) and rowing - for those who haven't yet noticed it means that Britain is very good at going backwards - fast ! LOL

Will the world miss the games? I doubt the one-third of the world who are under-fed will be bothered that they are over (or that they even knew they had begun !) And millions of UK pensioners will be glad their their TV schedules are returning to normal (not too many of them are apparently keen on the pentathlon).

And what about the hysteria? Err ... what hysteria? Not one person has even mentioned the games to me. Even the commentators say they have been sterile and lacking spirit. I wonder how many of Britain's new "sporting heroes" will be remembered in a month's time? (Let try this out - can ANYONE name ANY of Britain's gold medal winners at the last Olympics?)

Still ... it took (some) people's minds of the fact that our economy is going down the pan ... so what better thing to do than waste more money on planning the next one?

I'll bet you one thing ... there will be a shortage of BBC commentators at the London games (after all, why would they want to cover games in rainy London when they could be on holiday in Barbados?).

Well I'm sorry ITK, I loved every minute of them, was glued to absurd sports, and thought the BBC coverage was brilliant and worth every penny.

Vote for your faves now!

For me, in powerful THIRD PLACE - the Bolt lad; what a sprinter, what a great attitude, what a lovely country Jamaica is - watch him in 2012.

In SECOND PLACE - Michael Phabulous Phelps; incredible 8 bloody golds!

And for me the winner - glorious Rebecca Adlington, who not only won 2 golds but is clearly a gorgeous, natural, magical lass with all the best aspects of our Northern towns. I adored her.

Best moment - shared by two Taekwondo incidents; the reverse decision and the kick to the referee.

So there you go ITK; we must agree to disagree.

I've said it before, JK, and I'll say it again - you watch far too much TV !

I only watched the ending ceremony. Loved Boris Johnson accepting the flag. Stood there like a schoolboy resisting the urge to put his hands in his pockets - obviously remembering that this was an punishable prefect's offence.

You're right Foz, Boris was a delight, very funny and with just the right mocking but affectionate attitude.

We've certainly had a couple of interesting Mayors here in London.

I think all the Mayors from around the World should compete in the next Olympics in a sack race.
It would be fantastic and a great end to the London Olympics.

Sorry, I could not resist the imagery there!

Well the odd image in my head was of Boris with the way he charges about, so I`m going for Boris for Gold on that one!

Did we only get hooked into the Olympics because we started winning?

I don't think so. I was hooked by Phelps and also by the blanket BBC coverage - and the appalling alternatives on other channels which made it obligatory to watch BBC.

Nice start to the London party having a clearly worse for wear cyclist who had his wife up on stage to cover up any embarassment. His name escapes me but he was clearly drunk and mentioned Joey Barton getting flung in jail. Go on team UK (not GB)
