TOPIC: Barack Obama

Barack Obama 15 Years, 8 Months ago
Well, some of us felt it should have been Clinton but those of us hoping for a change and return to decency in the USA must surely support Obama.

I must say I've liked McCain for the past 10 years or so, since I became aware of him, and he's way better than the ghastly Bush (who I actually think should be prosecuted for war crimes) but Obama just might improve the state of Western morality.

If he dares.

I believe it's the end of the Bush/Neocon fantasy world that has brought so much grief for the past 8 years-whether McCain or Obama wins-these years are over and we should be able to look forward to at least a decade of more reasoned thinking.

But will the Republicans "fix" the win ?. I think they might. Al Gore and John Keery both won the vote and now even the manufacturers of those infamous voting machines have admitted there is flaw in the design that can drop off the complete vote of a district.

Oddly enough-in the last election the districts that dropped off just happened to be Democrat booths which added to the bizarre fact that booths that had been solid Democrat areas completely switched to Republican districts-particularly odd given that some even had more votes than there were voters.

Obama / Biden would be a wonderful duo for all of us !

If ever a man made his reputation from actions, not words then unfortunately it wasn't Barack.
I'd liked to have seen Clinton myself, but relying on a man with almost no experience...and one who sat on the fence on so many vital senate votes just seems to infer his supporters live in eternal hope.
Jonathan Edwards was to me by far the best choice...and would have made a more fitting companion on the ticket than a man who once got caught plagarising Welsh windbag Kinnock's speeches..at least if you're going to copy someone use someone else other than a confirmed no hoper and loser.

I loved Bill Clinton's cleverly worded endorsement - "Barack is the best MAN for the job".

Yes, Hillary's campaign to be the next democratic candidate - in 2012 if Obama loose this election or in 2016 if he wins - has already started.

Obama will be a good idea for President. A real change not least as the first black President ( cant see that happening for a UK PM by the way - we are not as enlightened here )

Not sure whether he can change the awful mistakes made since 9/11 by Bush but we must have some hope. Obama will certainly have the World on his side to start with - and I hope that he therefore appreciates that and acts accordingly to bring about a less aggressive foreign policy.

McCain seems decent enough - but he is too old and his Party needs some time in opposition so that the Neocons lose their grip on things or we are headed for Armegeddon.

Last night's launch event for him was sensational - Sheryl Crowe excellent and his speech with fireworks was pure theatre and an audience of 80,000 screaming fans.

He is surely the new KING OF POP !

Very impressive - lets hope if he gets office the "realities" of running a country dont jade him too quickly and he tries to keep his vision of hope and change.

I remember when Tony Blair had this sort of "feel good" factor in the UK - and it all ended in tears and silly wars. I still think that it could have worked if Blair had kept to his original agenda and not been sidetracked into Foreign Policy.

Obviously Obama is the best choice for President, although I do fear that he might be all image over substance. Time will tell.

I think people are over-looking Obama's acheivments-coming from a dirt-poor family and putting himself through Harvard, geting elected to the Senate and becoming the first black American presidential candidate.

Compare that with the current president-a dolt borne into a rich family ( no crime in itself ) but one who has failed in every business venture and had to be bailed out by daddy and his friends-plus his highly dubious National Home Guard record ( and non attendance).

McCain may have had a long experience in politics but he's had a very patchy record such as his involvement in trying to get he Feds to drop their investigation into the notorious Keating bank scandal and his grasp of foreign affairs seem pretty dim. If he can't remember how many houses he has do we really want this bloke with his finger on the button ?.

And with serious health problems-at 72 the US is a heartbeat away from a former beauty queen beoming president-whose vast experience in public office has been as mayor of a town of 8000 people and 2 years as Alaskan governor.

This sounds like a "go for broke" attempt by McCain as despite what the polls tell-it's almost a walk-in for Obama (unless those machines are rigged).

I doubt the women who may have voted for Hillary Clinton will go for Sarah Palin as an alternative given she stands for everything Hillary doesn't.

My prediction : it's just gone from a shoe-in to a landslide for Obama / Biden.
