Why Don't They Simply Give Him a Job? 15 Years, 8 Months ago
news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7592884.stm

This story has the potential to become a very big miscarriage of justice.

I do not understand why our government is willing to send this guy to the US, where he is likely to face imprisonment for the rest of his life...

US official have gone on record stating that they want to 'fry' him...

When the case first came to light, his lawyers were told that if he voluntarily went to the US and was convicted, he should expect a sentence of no more than a couple of years. He refused, and now they want to fry him...?

I heard that there is also a chance that the poor chap may end up in Guantanamo as an 'enemy combatant'. WTF?

This is a bloke who managed to breach some of the most *ahem* secure networks on the planet. After each hack, he left messages to highlight the lack of security in the system.

Why don't they just give him a job. Sounds like they could use his advice.

Surely with his skills British Intelligence could use him I agree.

We seem to have lost the plot over here - he was doing no harm - looking for UFO material.

Surely if he has these supposed skills he is more use to us here than in a cell in the USA.

When was the last time the USA deported anyone like him to us ?

BR, you state that he was doing no harm. What makes you so sure? The truth is out there, to coin a phrase. Does your source of information come from the media? The same media you are never slow off the mark to criticise?

Hacking is a crime - but what harm has he done ? I dont see the USA putting forward any harm that he has done and interviews with his family do seem to suggest that he is not an international terrorist.

To deport somoone because he has hacked is crazy. If he has not stolen money or crashed satellites or set of nuclear weapons then I dont see the problem. As the Government says if you have nothing to hide - I certainly would not care if a hacker hacked in to my PC to look around as long as they did no damage and did not use what they saw against my business interests in any way. If they managed to get in I would want to know how they did it in order to repair my security as well.

I just think we should not deport from this country full stop.

an idiotic decision. MI5 or MI6 should have snapped him up.

I think they're making an example of this obviously highly intelligent bloke. The American authorities will go through the motions for embarassing their weak systems and let him off. Then he'll get snapped up.
