I've been a juror only once-on a case involving a young bloke ( busted at Harrods !) accused of being a serial shoplifter.
The difficulty was that the prosecution inferred numerous other shoplifting crimes with little proof,
From my experience the jury system can be frightening..some were ready to vote "guilty" or "not guilty" asap to get out as soon as possible.
2or 3 took the line he was obviously guilty of one charge so he must be of others..very scary..and one kept saying
"just loook at him-you can see he's a thief"
Finally sense prevailed and we found him guilty only of the Harrod's shoplifting charge ( which even he couldn't deny-but he denied the other charges).
He got a good behaviour bond..I later heard he sent a note to the judge who felt great sympathy for him as the note said the reason he was stealing dresses from Harrods was that he was a closet cross dresser and couldn't afford to buy new frocks !
