TOPIC: how is Vile Pervert doing?

how is Vile Pervert doing? 15 Years, 8 Months ago
I actually spoke about VP to a few friends the other day after hesitating for a while thinking people would shy away from it because of media coverage of JK. It got a surprisingly good reception.

so I was just wondering how it's doing.

It is going very well thank you David.
Over 25,000 full length views/downloads and thousands more who have dipped in and watched a part.
A friend pointed out that the new Guy Ritchie has probably been seen by no more than 5000 and will now go to video.
Of course, those films require money paid for tickets, going out for scheduled screenings and so on.
Vile Pervert can be watched anytime, anywhere in the world, free of charge, starting whenever convenient.

But for whatever reason it's probably been seen by many more than 90% of commercial movie releases.

I would like to see the BBC buy it and put it on with a discussion afterwards.

This is the sort of thing we pay our LICENSE FEE for - free speech and an alternative view of society from the inside.

In addition loads of great songs should make it acceptable to the general public.

When you consider the genuine rubbish which fills the BBC screens much of the time - this could be a ratings winner.......THE SUN and News of the WORLD alone would give the showing so much publicity that it would be one of the most watched programmes on TV. I cant see them biting their lip !! Probably get loads of dodgy people in Criminal Justice trying to take out injunctions as well to stop free speech.

I would say it is THE PUBLIC INTEREST for this musical to be on the BBC.

Any interest yet JK ?

I agree BR; it would be terrific and fascinating terrestrial TV scheduling and I guarantee it would get massive ratings.

They will not dare buy it or show it however - the Internet is the perfect home for it; for free, getting hundreds of viewings a day, with word of mouth spreading the message daily.

The MEEEEJAH simply don't keep up, do they?

The media are AFRAID of debate.

After all they can show primetime on EASTENDERS a storyline that is more shocking - a Stepfather knocking off their stepdaughter under the nose of their partner - but would not want to show Vile Pervert for risk of offending THE SUN and NOTW.

If anyone from the BBC reads this site I would DARE you to actually back free speech and suggest showing VILE PERVERT to let the general public be able to see it and make up their own minds.

I would say that if the BBC does not show it - they are supressing FREE SPEECH yet again. It makes a mockery of their press statement which says they want to highlight difficult issues and sensitive issues ( made after the EASTENDERS programme in response to complaints )

Well BBC people - over to you - will you show VILE PERVERT as part of your CHRISTMAS SCHEDULE. A KING AT CHRISTMAS should be the advertising banner and would guarantee the whole UK woudl tune in to a) Sing A Long with the hit songs and b) to see what really happened.

The interent is a good place to show it but I would suspect at least 5 million would view this on BBC2 on a 11.20 slots with following discussion. Especially if the SUN and NOTW joined in with some "HYSTERICAL" publicity.

The only thing stopping the BBC would be the fear of the press. If the BBC does not show it - surely that would prove that the BBC bows down the collective might of MURDOCH.

It would be spectacular, controversial, brave and clever programming.

Not a hope in hell, then.

The BBC have a duty to protect us from immoral filth, from a sex offender in denial.

But that won't be a popular view here.

We are realistic and know that the BBC will not show 'Vile Pervert'.

However, I am sure some satellite channels would be interested.

As for the Eastenders storyline, I think it is slight double standards, however, I think that that guy potraying this sexual predator is doing a very convincing portayal.

However, the media are annoying me when they say that Eastenders should not be doing a pedophile (apologies for the spelling) storyline, yet why do they not do their research as the victim or girl is 15. It does make me so angry when a editor doesn't do their job properly.

Actually Mike I've been approached by several satellite channels but I'm not interested at present.

I'd consider a terrestrial with strict conditions - no cutting, no editing.

We have the great advantage that we don't need them. Word of mouth is spreading very nicely and building interest.

I would suspect that if your appeal is successful, then I am sure a terrestrial channel would be interested.

Channel 4 would be the best bet, in my opinion.

However, with over 25,000 downloads, it's doing far better than a lot of films at the cinema.

An interesting point raised.

I don't feel the BBC ought to ignore it (or anything) on moral grounds but on artistic merit merit. Simply it's not good enough.

It's of interest to a small coterie, some voyeurs and those interested in psychology. Mainstream entertainment it is not.

I think a "a sex offender in denial" is quite an interesting subject in itself, which I would broaden to how people rationalise unacceptable/irrational behaviour beyond anything to do with sex.

How and why many people exist in a state of denial/rationalisation I would find interesting (Given it was done well and all that)

The world of the Tabloid reader/writer that thinks in simple black or white and manages to accept their own form of prurience while condemning other kinds could be very interesting - although somewhat disturbing.

I appreciate your honesty Zoo - I hope that it is entertaining for the majority (it was intended to be though it may not have succeeded). That was my priority.

I also hope and think it is an interesting, novel and original way to present a documentary. I have to say I think that makes it worth screening.

There is no reason why a documentary cannot make points which are serious whilst still making people laugh (didn't you, Zoo?), tap their feet and hum tunes (ditto) and not switch off because there might be an interesting moment coming up in a few seconds.

That was the intention. It may or may not have worked. But I think the proof of the pudding was the response to the link on Popbitch some months ago - it nearly blew our server off air for one reason; the majority who tapped in stayed for the full 96 minutes, to our delight but using massive bandwidth as a result.

Which suggests that those who try it like it - or at least find it interesting - enough to stay watching.

and on the "what should the BBC judge on?" - I've noticed that the losers/useless executives in every walk of life do not select on quality or appeal.

People who took over record companies immediately altered the logo or changed the name of the label - anything except the priority (which I had) - get some hits.

This was usually because they had no idea how to find hits so blew up a smokescreen of unrelated activity.

It's the same in politics, police - the lot.

The head of Surrey Police should be finding, stopping and locking up the loony who murdered Milly Dowler. Instead they concentrate on traffic fines and historical abuse false allegations - nice and easy to get convictions and publicity as opposed to results.

So TV executives re-commission stings and graphics in order to avoid finding populist or good programmes.

Leave morality to those setting the morals - if you're in TV, get the viewers watching and enjoying.

Any criticism I have of Vile Pervert is bit unfair or rather misplaced because it would be based on something VP never claimed to be.

If I said your music lacked substance the obvious reply would be it never claimed or pretended to have any. It is what it is.

In a similar way if I said VP was a bit of a one-dimensional caricature it would be missing the point entirely and I did watch the whole of VP which I wouldn't have done if it was simply crap.

Within the context of itself it succeeds.

And there is now a service (CreateABox) which I gather has started up inspired by my success with Vile Pervert.

I've been told by several Hollywood contacts that the success of the project has raised many eyebrows.

You see, whilst on the surface it's a loss maker, the ramifications of creating and building a cult success are financially attractive.

Sales of DVDs, music downloads, merchandising, future screenings (I'm thinking of midnight screenings for VPTM), artistes and stars emerging, TV sales...

I was always first!
