George Michael - outrage in the Sun 15 Years, 8 Months ago
"How dare they not charge him for dabbling in drugs", they scream!!!

Of course, nobody at News International ever takes drugs...

What the Sun, quite rightly means is...

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A MUCH BETTER STORY.

Perhaps that was a valid point JK? Why didn't he get charged? I for one was very surprised he didn't. He was caught with crack cocaine for Gods sake. I have friends who have been caught with small amounts of cannabis and been charged. Was it because he's a star that he gets preferential treatment? It wouldn't be the first time. Whether the journalists that write this take drugs is irrelevant.

My personal feeling, though I've never taken drugs (including nicotine) and never intend to, is that fewer people should be charged for harmless personal choices.

But the reality is - if George had been average man, he probably would not have even been searched, let alone charged. The police have better things to do.

The Sun has a point.

The problem is that most drugs are made in Afganistan and we rule the place - so they are being brought here with the backing of the UK Government.

again we have the situation where the Government is allowing drugs to be grown and imported and then expects the Police to arrest people.

Who gets the money from drugs ? It should be easily identifiable - because they manage to shut down all terrorist bank accounts. However, with drugs they seem not to bother.

I dont take drugs and sadly the people I know in music who dabbled are now either dead or very weirded out. Cant see any benefits apart from the creative nature of the hallucigenic drugs - but that can shove ordinary people into Mental Health wards so the risk is massive.

I disagree. The Police would search anyone given the chance. Even if they found a small amount of cannabis, they'd charge you. Being frisked by the fuzz is more common than not.

Until 8 years ago I'd never been frisked, nabbed, questioned or stitched up.

Thank God for the value of experience.

Now I have more wisdom.

the only problem here is why are police bothering with someone who takes drugs that are their personal choice and hanging around a park ?

and yes..the reality is that I've seen plenty of jounalists popping into the loo to sniff cocaine with soapie stars. And the son of a media baron doing likewise..but I would never dare reveal his name..not that The Sun would ever run the story !

I hardly drink and only for the taste, not the effect (not being moralistic - alcohol gives me a hangover and nothing in between).
