Bebo's naughty word detector 15 Years, 8 Months ago
My 15yr old nephew received an email from Bebo saying that he was in danger of having his account deleted. The reason was that he had tried to transfer a video from Youtube which was of a clip from the Channel 4 show The Family. The title of the clip was "Tit for Tat". It's quite a well known phrase, but Bebo have obviously caught the word "Tit" and assumed that it was a porn video. Quite obviously they do not view the videos before they take action.
He has sent them an email explaining, but I can guess that it will never be read by human eyes.
I remember a while ago when my hubby submitted a music review to a website and it was rejected for containing the word cock. Actually he'd described the music as cocktail jazz. I guess peacock and cockerill would also be rejected.
Auto checkers might save time, but they don't posess any degree of real judgement. They are no substitute for a human editor.
