TOPIC: Gordon Brown is so happy...

Gordon Brown is so happy... 15 Years, 7 Months ago
I remember at lunch with Simon Hoggart in 2006, before Brown became PM, I asked Simon what Brown was like and he answered that the only time he came to life was when the economy was discussed.

I suggested he should retain his Chancellorship after he became PM - which he has essentially done.

So it interested me to see him come to life again over the past weeks when it's all about money.

Just posted something on another topic regarding this. There is no doubt that he a fine chancellor (then I thought that about Ken Clarke as well) and I suspect that if this economic plan works, he could serve another term as PM.

However, as this is a image-driven media, I suspect that he won't retain the PM post, although if Labour do win another term then maybe move Brown back as chancellor and appoint a new PM.

Unfortunately he does come over as dull.

I agree that he loves money.

What I dont agree with is that he has "sorted" out the underlying cause of the problems.

Debt still exists and has to be paid back.

When our taxes go up to raise around

As Chancellor, Gordon Brown's policy was to build the economy on debt by borrowing as much as possible and selling off our gold reserves while they were at their lowest value. Superficially things looked quite good, but it's the house built on sand scenerio. He was like a teenager who exhausts his credit card and then gets another credit card to pay off the first, letting debt spiral out of control.

As Prime Minister, Gordon Brown follows the same policy. He has not learned from his mistakes, and now that there is a global economy we have nothing in the cupboard - no reserves to fall back on.

Money may make him happy, but he hasn't a clue how to manage it.
