TOPIC: Overworked and useless

Overworked and useless 15 Years, 6 Months ago
Read an article in last Thursday's paper (the Mail I think) about government ministers not getting enough rest and sleep to do their job properly. That article I think was very important - and perhaps gives us a glimpse of why our country is going downhill FAST.

Firstly, tiredness is a known factor in road accidents and you know yourselves that concentration and awareness drops when you are tired. However it seems that constant overworking is expected from our government - anything less is seen as 'not good enough' these days. This overwork is prevalent in our whole society these days, but it is not helping anyone.

Think back to the days when some of the more unpopular ministers were starting off - they made an effort to get into government because they were passionate and wanted to make a difference. Young lads and ladies the likes of whom used to knock on doors canvassing to secure your vote because they were passionate about the UK. However, once they are in government, a constant barrage of work quashes what originally made them popular and we are left with a husk of their former self. Remember how 'boyish' Blair was when he started in his role of PM, and how he ended up - unpopular and haggard.

So, getting back to my original point, ministers should show up at parliament rested and ready to go or NOT AT ALL. If they are seen sleeping at the back (as they do now) what use are they to us?

The UK needs fast thinking, agile witted and AWAKE ministers now, not the sleepy wrecks with fixed smiles and sunken eyes I see wheeled out on TV time and time asgain:S .
