I can`t believe how cheap pumpkins are this year... 15 Years, 6 Months ago

..I went to the farm shop and they had hundreds of them, the same as "Mesco`s".
Only about 6 years back, I got ripped off for a tenner for one for the kids to carve*, they are now about 70p.
Don`t forget that these squashes are not just for carving though folks, I have never been a pumpkin pie fan, but curried squash soup of any kind is one of my favourites.
Remove the seeds, cut into slices and bake in a low oven for about an hour with your selected spices.
Blitz it in the whizz bang thingy, you can use the skin or not depending on what thickness you want your soup.
Add water and stock and finish by serving with a lick of cream ran through the centre.(and season then)
I do prefer this recipe with butternut squash, but these are obviously not very good for carving faces in for Halloween, and anyone doing it would probably get an award for artistry from Damien Hurst.
As the squash season commences, there are many varieties available, also called Gourds, which for some daft reason, the British used to stick around the fireplace and use as ornaments!
*granted this one was bigger than 2 basketballs.
