more rediculous "panic" and a story that ludicrously quotes a couple who have taken their daughter's profile of Facebook because they are terrified of pedophiles. (who apparently can reach right through the computer and grab your child while you aren't looking !)

And why is this a revolting and disgusting story ?

Because it appears in the Daily Telegraph-Rupert Murdoch's biggest selling trashy tabloid in Australia.

Oh-what's that you say ?..it's only protecting kids from pedos ?

No mention of course that Rupert Murdoch owns MySpace, Facebook's largest competitor which is virtually exactly the same as Facebook (although MySpace is far bigger !)

When will the servile proles at News Ltd wake up and realise they do the work of the devil ?

*************************************
THE fear of pedophiles lurking in cyberspace worries Sydney couple Mark and Melissa Jose so much they recently removed photos of their daughter, Charlotte, from their Facebook site.

"I was quite a big user of Facebook but after reports in the media I deleted all the photos of Charlotte,'' said Mrs Jose. ``I was consciousof how many people actually had access to it.''

Yesterday, as his daughter swam at Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre, Mr Jose welcomed amendments by the NSW Sentencing Councilto toughen the State's laws in relation to children.

"Because of the internet and social networking sites, it's easier to get these photos of children out and accessible to many,'' Mr Jose said.

I lie !

Facebook apparently has 110 million members.
MySpace apparently has 100 million members.

I guess Facebook is far more dangerous.

I have a friend who won't allow her children on the internet without supervision, but she still sends them out on their own to run errands for her. I pointed out that they are technically in far more danger from people in the physical world than in the virtual world, but she still doesn't get it.

I heard someone say, "Don't show your back garden on Youtube because they can trace you by it."

How many back gardens are there in the world?

I think it suits governments and media to create fear about the internet. The governments use it to keep control, while the media use it to create sensational stories and make money. None of it helps to protect children.

Friends of mine have put pictures of their kids on Facebook. I was quite surprised to see them there and it somehow didn't seem right to see them on my laptop. Call me old fashioned but the fact that i had access, therfore others had access made me feel uneasy. Being the parent of an 8 week old, the last thing i would want is strangers having access to private pictures of our beautiful daughter. Some of whom would probably use for their own amusement or gratification.
