John Prescott - the class system and me 15 Years, 6 Months ago
Interesting to see John Prescott on this programme chat to a group of young working class girls from a council estate in Lewisham. Prescott described one of the girls as been endearing. Moments earlier the same girl described how she wanted all P*kis out of the country and she wanted to vote for the BNP, like her dad. She also described how she got expelled from school for fighting her teacher. So thats what Prescott calls endearing!!

Politics will be a duller place without him. He's a dying breed replaced by Tory clones. Liked him a lot in this documentary. He seemed a tad insecure at times maybe even bitter. His wife was unsuspecting the star of the show. Loved his comment about encountering Chumbawumba at the Brits. " I tapped him in the ribs and he went down".

Tory Clones ?

I dont think you can say KEN CLARKE is a clone or WILLIAM "10 pints" HAGUE or the superb new female shadow ministers they have - very attractive with great brains as well !!

John Prescott should have been arrested for throwing the punch - if he had been JK or Brand or Ross and he had punched a member of the public live on TV then he would have been arrested and charged.

Prescott is actually in my mind a classic example of the "Snout in the Trough" politician. He should have stayed working on a ship in my view - because he basically used taxpayers' money to live a life of Chip eating - debauchery - violence - showboating - and hypocrisy.

You seem to forget that he has two jags as well.

Give me BORIS anyday - much funnier - rides a bike - tells the truth - does not try and hide his background - does not have his snout in any trough. Much funnier - and unlikely to bash in the face someone he does not agree with.

If BORIS is a clone - then yes please - lets have more of them. He has already frozen COUNCIL TAX contributions for millions of Londoners - after New Labour had put them up 10% on average every year. That is real politics for the poorest. Not just warm words.

I voted liberal last time - the New Tory party is streets ahead of Labour and Liberals now. Shame Vince did not stay ( I agree ) but Clegg is a clone of Tony Blair ( and a poor one at that !!)

I was astonished by how handsome he was when he was a young man.
I've always had a soft spot for him and his wife was super in the show which I watched on iPlayer.

In fact I think, if his wife is as lovely as Pauline is, John must be OK.

I have met many nice women who have total idiots as husbands. They seem to take pity on them. So that logic is flawed.

I would just like to see him enjoy his retiremnt rather than milk the BBC for yet more money like Edwina Currie - Portillo and all the others on the BBC gravy train.

I really hope the Brand/Ross episode leads to the BBC actually being cut free to be an independent broadcaster.

It cant justify "public service" anymore - so should not have the subsidy of license fees to gravy train so many people.

The BBC News is poor quality so even that does not merit state funding anymore. Most of those working for the BBC are very left leanin rather than impartial. They therefore paint the news as extreme views rather than concentrate on facts. Opinion is now more important - opinion shaping is now the BBC job in league with the Government who call every policy "public service"

In the 1980s the BBC was right wing. It basically follows the Government of the day. Hence our political debate has been crushed since the 80s and that has led to both the Tories and Labour have 15 years in power. That is wrong.

Well I'm sorry I liked Prescott, I liked the three chav girls who were really bright and sparky and I loved Pauline who should be given her own show immediately.

I think "who is Gordon Brown?" is the most intelligent thing I've heard on TV all year.

And I thought it was a cracker of a TV show.

I can't say I like Prescott, but I do respect the way he was genuine and proud to be a left wing bigot, unlike Blair who hid behind image. You always knew where you stood with Prescoot, and he called a spade a spade.

I didn't watch the TV show. I'm quite happy for him to fade into oblivion.

Yes - give Pauline a show. Still dont like the idea of Prescott taking taxpayer money still.

When people earn their money - by having talent and working hard I have no problem with it. When they get given money and they abuse their position ( as Prescott did - remember the grace and favour homes - the romps - the croquet ) then even if they have a nice personality it is wrong.

Thats rubbish, the bbc is still the best broadcasting company in Britain, if not the world. How many commercial channels driven by money would be able to give breaks to people like 'The mighty boosh', the office etc. It has the best documenaries and dramas. If it were to become commercial it would just be another channel full of mind numbing game shows and reality shows.

Ummmm, 'Weakest Link'; 'Lottery show'; 'Dale Winton Celebrity Wall Show' & 'Celebrity Scissorhands'; 'Fame Academy'...BBC is merely ITV without the PAID for adverts. They have incredibly long advert breaks of their own between (and over the end of) every show. Buy their magazines; dvds; blah blah blah...I see more of the Radio Times on BBC television that if I purchased a copy and slept with it!

Get rid of the Boring Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), this would save all of us a fortune a year by not having to pay TV licensing fees.
Or at least give people the chance to choose whether or not they want these channels from the BBC.
