ACPO ( Police ) have decided to try and STOP all football in the UK - and possibly extend thaTht to Music festivals as well.

Dont laugh - read the article - they have a plan to CHARGE for what they are calling VINCINITY policing. So if you have an event you can be charged for all Policing for miles around your chosen location. This will be whether you request it or not - so it gives the Police a chance to charge you retrogressively.

The net result of this will mean most football clubs will be put out of business - and I can see most music festivals being unable to pay these costs ( Already Glasto does not make any profit )

The Football League Managers Association I believe are to back the small club in question on this issue which is likely to be a massive political issue.

This is further evidence of the way in which the Police ( Stasi ) are trying to close down the UK and make it impossible for any of us to go anywhere.

Like with all of these policies they try it out in far flung places first ( Aberdeen for the drugs swabs - Hereford for the vincinity charge and so on ) so that they can say they have "trialled it" before introducing it for the rest of us.

I'm sure there are police officers who also like to go to football matches and concerts so I can't see this working.

This is not about Policing the event itself. You seem to have misunderstood.

It is about the surrounding town or area.

This is a massive change to the law and would effect Music Festivals the worst because Police could charge for their time from Motorway Junctions to any traffic control on country roads or even stop and searchs of up to 150,000 going to a festival.....The BIKER FESTIVAL would have been presented with a

I understand it is policing the influx of people around an event which requires resources as much as the immediate area of an event.

The article you refer to states it is "money-making events" so as far as the article informs us charities need not be concerned which means we can put that to one side for now.

It's not really double accounting as the article is talking about policing above and beyond that which has been paid for by local rate-payers.

The question remains; if the people profiting from a "money-making event" don't pay who ought to pay and why?
