Famous people I bumped into today... 15 Years, 6 Months ago
Just after parking, Danny Baker, one of our best and most original broadcasters (I have to say that as he admits to being a regular visitor here), on his way to his Radio London studio. We chatted at length after I removed his ears from a rather fine Frank Sinatra track.

And then, meeting a friend for tea, at the next table a face I thought I recognized but didn't until he spoke on his mobile (John Motson) and his guest (who I knew but couldn't name either until my friend later confirmed it as Jim Rosenthal, Motson's opposite number on ITV).

The nuggets of fascinating gossip I got from ear wigging before my guest arrived - but I cannot pass on a single one since my nickname is Miss Discreet 2008 - are just staggering.

How annoying can I be?

So DANNY if you are reading this can you post your story about 1965 and the day you went to see Millwall and Hereford United.....

and can you bring up the "story" which threatens both Millwall and Hereford United which I have posted on this forum. BBC Midlands Today covered the story I believe as well.

I would recommend football fans to go to the NEW DEN to watch Millwall play. Lovely stadium with an excellent atmosphere. A really friendly place - the view of the pitch from the upper tiers is superb. It is a third of the price of watching Premier League football as well.

A couple of decades ago I wrote a review in the 'Television Today' section of 'The Stage' magazine on "Win Lose or Draw". It was the main featured review with a pic of Danny Baker. My opening sentence was - There have been some pathetic game shows over the years but this one takes the biscuit. Other snippets include Host Danny Baker bounced up and down flinging his arms about as though something exciting was happening.

I gave it a terrible review, but the show was given another series and Danny Baker went on the bigger things.

So much for my opinion.

I am full of admiration for you King; making an entire movie on your own and it is very funny and quite remarkable, bumping into celebs everywhere, keeping abreast of papers and TV - how do you have the time let alone the energy?

Al- Win, Lose or Draw was around in the 90s. Baker was already pretty well established by this stage. He is indeed one of the best broadcasters we have.
He went on a bit of an ego trip a decade or so ago and standards slipped, but the last few years have seen him return to top form in a major way and I enjoy his current radio work.

Imdb says that Danny Baker was presenter of "Win, Lose or Draw" from 1992. This confuses me now. I know I wrote the review between 1988 and 1992. Emlyn Hughes and David Jensen were the team captains. In 1990 I moved address and entered another line of work. My last commissioned story for the Television Today was of "My Husband and I" which broadcast around 1989. Unfortunately I didn't keep the full copy of the paper; I only have the clip in an album, so no date for the "Win, Lose or Draw" review. It's possible I wrote it as a random piece between 1990 and 1992, but certainly not after those dates.

It's still approx. two decades ago - give or take.

More info here: www.ukgameshows.com/page/index.php?title=Win%2C_Lose_or_Draw

I must say I cannot remember it as far back as the late 80s (although I was very young then), in fact I can't remember Allan Stewart at all.

Nor, I'm afraid, can I remember Emlyn Hughes or David Jensen as team captains.

This sort of programme certainly beats the Jeremy kyle twaddle that occupies the 9:25am timeslot on ITv1 nowadays!

Danny Baker is great no 606 on five live on tuesdays, however most of his forays into tv have been disastrous (e.g. pets win prizes, that chat show). He's quite good on talking head shows. I don't remember him on win, lose, or draw. I thought that was Bob Mills.

Yeah, Bob Mills took over when Baker left.

Do you think Motty was saying down his mobile to his dear wife, "you know darling but I think theres that Jonathan King sitting at the table next to me?"
