They terrify the poor dogs and all look the same.

Strangely there dont seem to be as many in our area this year. Our dog still lies trembling in the bathroom though - they always go into the bathroom for some reason. Can't be good for the horses in foal who live in the field nearby either.

It was the quietest bonfire night I think I've ever encountered. Of course there was a fair amount but nowhere near as much as usual. Also think the fireworks themselves weren't as loud as 2 or 3 years ago. Wasn't raining either.

Perhaps this "credit crunch" has had an effect since I'd guess many are struggling to cater for Christmas alongside being ripped off by the greedy profit guzzling energy companies.

Not many private displays here either. The large Town event was quite impressive, and I saw a couple of other smaller displays in the distance. Usually the night sky is sparkling for two or three hours on 5th Nov.

I think the new licencing laws have made a big difference because the shops which used to sell fireworks in my town no longer do. In fact, I haven't seen anyone selling them.

Our pets have never been terribly bothered by them, possibly because we have army training areas nearby and regular RAF excercises overhead. The local sheep don't react either.

I find it rather sad that another old tradition has been snuffed out. No matter what event takes place there are always plenty of moaning minnies to create a fuss and deman yet another ban.

Don't speak too soon, they're all going to happen at the weekend as per usual. In our local village in Surrey, virtually the whole village walks through the village with lit torches to light the bonfire. This seems like a highly dangerous activity and you would think health and safety regulations would forbid it.

A little thing called common sense, while eluding the few, has kept the average torch burning mob from burning itself to death over the hundreds of years before health and safety laws were invented. I'm sure your village will survive.

It's the one single tradition I could do without. I wouldn't say ban it completely but I wish they would limit it to 1 night rather than making it a 2 week event. That little thing called common sense should also question why on earth shops should be selling explosives these days. Hopefully it will get snuffed out

Having experienced the wonderment of Guy Fawkes night as a child, it's a great shame that many adults have to rain on their parade because they've outgrown it. KAAAABOOM!!!
