Just got another of those "Urgent Update" messages from a bank... 15 Years, 6 Months ago
decided to reply that the reason there seemed to be "suspicious activity" on my account is because I don't have an account with that wanky bank but letting them know my private password for it is "FuckOffWankersAndGoBackTo Nigeria".

Yeah, I get plenty of those, all from banks I've never been with.

If you think those Nigerian scams are bad, they're much worse on online dating sites. A few months ago I was contacted by a girl in Liverpool. I replied and we chatted via IM where she revealed she lived in Lewisham and had no idea where Liverpool was. Amused and suspicious by this, I allowed a second conversation where "she" suddenly announced she was now in Nigeria to visit her sick Gran, all the while declaring she was completely "in love" with me. I took great pleasure in telling her to f*** off and deleting her from my account, reporting her and getting her booted from the dating site... only to be replaced by more of the morons.

...and by replying confirming an active email address.

Well done, that showed them didn't it

Only joking Zoo; the words "decided to reply" don't mean that I did.

I had one call me and say they were from my mortgage company and that I had missed a payment.

I stated that:

"I don't recall having a mortgage with the bank of the dishonest Nigerian" and he hung up.

I assume he was expecting me to give him my bank details over the phone ?

and beware..there is new scheme being promoted by VISA with an on-line card (you have no actual card..just a number) to pay for things on-line..e-bay etc if you don't want to use your regular credit card as I don't .

I got one for 100 pounds..paid 5 quid for something and the rest was cleaned out within 2 hours !! trying to get it back from Visa is hell !

Anyone remember ICQ? That was one of the reasons I gave up on the service, which was ahead of its time in retrospect.

First....you decided to reply. Then....when Zoo points out the folly - you say you didn't reply !

Again JK, it is difficult to know what to believe from you....even all those famous people you constantly bump into and have a great chat with !

The only thing we can rely on Ted is that whilst your name changes your IP number remains the same - sometimes, just for the fun of it, I put up your repetitive posts; most times we don't bother.

Oddly enough I just got an email telling me I was due a refund from the IRS. This shortly after one telling me my Bank America account had been compromised.

Maybe it's because I use AOL they think I'm American.

A few years ago, in an MSN chat room, someone asked me "If you're really from England how come you're on AOL?" I explained that AOL was just the name of the company and that it was used worldwide.

Don't fret Anthony I happen to have a large sum of money I need to transfer and I'm would really appreciate your help. I promise you a hefty commission fro very little effort.

Simply post your bank details and I'll do the rest.
