Little Dorrit - a rich seam of delight 15 Years, 5 Months ago
Complex characters, intriguing plots, woven and clever, tremendous dialogue and acting, sensational sets and direction and camera work...

Those at the tabloids bent on trying to destroy the BBC - shame on you.

I actually found tears of joy trickling down my cheek at the wealth of colours in the Dickens tapestry and the sub sub plot of Tattycoram.

Nobody else has ever had such observation of the foibles of humanity.

He is as much a joy today as he was a hundred years ago.

True genius. Compared to my other great hero, he is more Sistine Chapel than David.

Wonderful article in the Guardian by AS Byatt -

I reread a Dickens novel every year. Little Nell (The Old Curiosity Shop) is another gem; so is Barnaby Rudge, if you're looking for the less obvious ones.

To this day I reckon that opening scene in the churchyard in Great Expectations is probably the most frightening literature ever written.
