TOPIC: A TV treat tonight
#39814
A TV treat tonight 15 Years, 3 Months ago
NOT scheduled because of Mortimer's death but a coincidence I suspect (it's in all the Sunday TV supplements - printed before he died last Friday)... the very first Rumpole, on BBC4 at 8pm.

35 years ago and an absolute master class in writing.

Quite delicious prose.

I actually remember word for word the relationship between Rumpole and his son Nick (a dimension that didn't emerge in later scripts) and the wonderful irony of Rumpole gleefully discovering that his client could not read nor write - which mortified the poor lad, far happier to be convicted than shamed.

Fabulous. John Mortimer RIP.
