Gary Glitter back on tv shock 15 Years, 3 Months ago
An episode of the BBC four series Style On Trial had a brief clip of The Leader in performance. Does this mean we may see him reinstated in the music documentaries on the seventies or was the producer just using it to see if he or she got any complaints. The programme is the usual fashion waffle but does have its moments

I've never understood the reason behind trying to pretend Gary Glitter wasn't once a major part of pop culture by missing him off radio and TV shows about music and fashion. We don't ban clips of Himler.

On Pick Of The Pops at Christmas Dale ran down the Xmas '89 chart and played "Let's Party" by Jive Bunny, incorporating a huge chunk of GG's "Another Rock & Roll Christmas."
I am guessing this was an attempt to gauge public reaction if GG were to be reinstated in the POTP canon but I suppose the real test will come if they try any early/mid seventies charts with GG so high up that missing him out would be ridiculous.
Re:Gary Glitter back on tv shock 15 Years, 3 Months ago
Sadly no. There has been a memo sent round that no tracks by GG or myself are to be played.
Fortunately so many of my hits were under pseudonyms that they get played all the time.
Meanwhile tens of thousands watch the You Tube videos for Everyone's Gone To The Moon, Una Paloma Blanca etc.
The less radio plays them, the more listeners want them.

Radio and TV have become less influencial in this multi media age. Kids get most of their music off the net, and sites like Youtube, Myspace and Bebo help promote as many (if not more) songs than the mainstream media.
Plus, people can buy Glitter and King tracks anonymously online, making attempts, by such as the BBC, to ban them useless.

Cultural censorship is a sign of a Authoritarian Police State.
So if there is a MEMO that exists within any corporation or company that says certain people's work should not be played I would say that this breaks every trade law and every civil rights law about the right of an individual to work.
We are seeing a dreadful erosion of our civil liberties under this government and their "media" control.
Good to see JONATHAN ROSS back on TV this week. another case of ridiculous censorship led by JEALOUSY.

I worked at a well known Music Television channel based in Camden and they only had one Glitter track on their Asset database, which was 'Its good to be back'. I don't think he should be removed from music documentaries about the early seventies, but I really don't think there is any demand to hear is music anymore.
Re:Gary Glitter back on tv shock 15 Years, 3 Months ago
Whatever one thinks of GG and his crimes, the FACT is, he was a major name in the early 70's and a big part of the whole Glam Rock movement. His records were very influential too... do you think Adam and The Ants would had happened had it not been for the drum sounds and tricks used on GG's records? GG's crimes do not in any way alter the fact that many of those singles - for which Mike Leander deserves much credit - were, and remain superb pop singles.
To wipe him out of history and therefore rewrite it is utterly absurd and fascistic. Maybe there isn't much demand for the music now, but that doesn't mean he should be written out of history completely. If that is to be the case then there's quite a few legendary names that should be written out as well, who are revered, loved and their music continues to be played and bought, not to mention able to tour and go about life without meejah harassment.

I think the reason for this is that there is a taboo about child abuse of any type and people take a dim view of anyone involved in it at any level. The taboo is obviously hyped by the media. Some of Glitter's songs may be pop classics, however when people hear them now, they just get a creepy feeling and think about peadophilia.
They did however show a short clip of Glitter on the bbc documentary 'Lock up your daughters' a couple of weeks ago, so he hasn't been completely blanked out of history. It was only a short clip, but then Glitter wasn't a big a player in the glam rock scene as Bolan, Bowie, Slade, or Mud.
