Rebekah champions openness and honesty... 15 Years, 3 Months ago
www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/jan/27/qua...-editor-rebekah-wade

I gather she intends to start by naming the News International employees convicted or suspected of sexual deviancy.

That day's paper will be several pages larger than usual.

Rolling around the floor - "the Sun is serious journalism" - along with Gordon Brown this poor women has lost her marbles.

Our press is rightly called the GUTTER press.

In addition anyone who buys The Sun or NotW in my opinion is contributing to the gutter mentality. It has some following - hence it exists. Some people live in the gutter.

The Sun used to be a fun paper. But it is now bitter and cynical and manipulating. NotW even worse. They represent the values of Murdoch - which seem to be to destroy everything.

Now that is an excellent piece of journalism which hits the nail on the head.

Dont see much of that in the Sun.

It's very difficult to work out what Rupert Murdoch's value are.

When he first began his career after inheriting one newspaper in Adelaide, he deliberately destroyed the career of a prospective Prime Minister by linking him to a left-wing commentator who was being investigated by the security servoces (fairly normal for any outspoken person in the 50's).

This benefited him in 2 ways-it paid back the commentator who Murdoch despised as he'd claimed Rupert was manipulating and devious (true !). Reputedly he phoned the commentator the night before a front page feature written by Murdoch swept Australia, about the link and gloated that he'd be finished the next day.

This also meant a PM was installed who immediately relaxed currency rules so Murdoch could buy the NOTW.

He religiously plumps for conservative politicians whilst brow-beating editors and at same time claiming they have editorial freedom. Rebekah Wade is simply one who will do his bidding with no holds barred.

Those who do his bidding are expected to carry the can of something goes wrong...as in the NOTW Royal phone tapping scandal. You sell your soul when you work for News Ltd.

For 10 years he and his journalists on the only Australian national newspaper manipulated every retrograde aspect of PM John Howard's career..Howard was an incompetant liar ,bordering on corrupt, vindictive, vicous and nasty but he changed the media laws so Murdoch could consolidate hs empire and dominate newspapapers and cable TV in that country. Cable TV could be his undoing..a billion dollar investment is turning sour.

Meanwhile his mother, Dame Elizabeth Murdoch who just turned 100 (so don't expect Rupert to retire soon)scalded Howard a week ago as having destroyed his own party- now unelectable.

True, but with the active support of her adored son.

During the great Hitler Diaries hoax in the 1970's which the Sunday Times published (even after Murdoch knew they were fakes)he declared "we're in show business".
Every one of his children (and ex-wife Anna ) changed their nationality to suit corporation voting rights. No loyalty.

He is said to be deeply conservative in private. Significantly apparent heir and son Lachlan, the nicest Murdoch and a polite Ivy League type bailed out of News Corp 5 years ago. Took the money and ran.

I see his empire decliing sharply over the next few years with the election of Barack Obama. Obama's quip to Republicans to "stop listening to (Rush)Limbaugh" was deliberate and a shot across the bows of Murdoch's manipulations.

The PM he helped install in Australia (but only after it became apparent Howard would be routed) has sensed his power is cemented and that he doesn't need to court the "Sun King".

News ltd is built on a sea of debt with plunging revenues as adverts plummet world-wide. Shares have hemorrhaged and dividends non-existent. I reckon it's in danger of being torn apart..the best thing that could happen.
