Can The Sun be prosecuted for child abuse? A front page ruins lives.
Can The Sun be prosecuted for righteous indignation and attempting to waste millions of our tax pounds by pretending a one off freak situation means thousands of prepubescent tots are screwing anything within sight? And we must spend a fortune preventing this.

The police say there will be no prosecution in this case. I wonder what the reaction would be if the protagonists were a 12 year old girl and a 15 year old boy. By not charging the older party are they saying its alright if the older party is the female.The story looks like a money grubbing exercise to me. After all think of the follow up articles and tv shows.Who sold the story to The Sun? The parents of the children? If so they are as guilty of child abuse as the Matthews woman.

Yep ...she is. It's also quite revolting...if the boy had been 15 and the girl 12..how many would have been baying for the boy's blood? The other way round and suddenly everyone on TV and radio broadcasts are all sympathetic.

It's a fact that kids have sex, and yes a 12 year old boy can produce enough sperm to father a child. Some mature sexually faster than others, despite their youthful appearance.

This baby has been born. The last thing she or her young parents need is self righteous social dictators and politicians calling for arrests and prosecution. How would that undo what's happened? I'm amazed, although I shouldn't be, that The Sun plastered them all over their front page. The only positive thing about that might be that The Sun have paid a large sum to the family for their exclusive story and video footage which can be used to support the child. But I think the negatives from the publicity might outweigh that positive in the long term.

The Stedmans live quite close to my sister. They are nothing like the Matthews family, and my limited experience of Alfie suggests he's a nice, normal kid .. although I would never have expected this to happen, at least not yet.

How do we stop kids from having sex? Not by making laws, or by locking them up. The short answer is that we can't. It's happened for centuries. We can just encourage them not to, and try explain why, but kids will still play on the ice and run along the railway tracks. At least Alfie hasn't commited murder or become a drug dealer.

What's done is done. They now need support, not condemnation. This way the kids stand more chance of growing into decent adults, and the baby can develop in a more stable and happy atmosphere.

Learn from the past (though mankind seldom does), and plan for a better future.

It would be different if the boy was older because the male is the perpertrator in the sex act. A woman can't force a man to have sex if he isn't aroused. Also I don't think anything would happen, even if the boy was 15 and the girl 12, it is extremely rare for underage sex to be prosecuted, unless the boy is much older.

I think you are slighty wrong there..it's often used against older person's in court the fact that a boy can be easily aroused and will have sex...you know..a dick has no conciense etc.

Then much later they discover "guilt" and apparently their lives are pemanently ruined by the natural act of sexual relief and the only cure for this guilt is a substantial cash payment !

The only thing strange about this story is that it's news..100 years ago this was the norm before protection-the pill, condoms etc.

Pig faced slut, influenced by the heroic adventures of Karen Matthews, finds herself in the pudding club by one of her Asbo type 18 year old friends, tells a liitle friend who thought his toothpick slipping between folds of fat was intercourse, that he is the Dad, sells story to the tabloids...

You couldn't make it up.

This is like manna to heaven for the tabloids-what a juicy scandal for them..underage sex, welfare scroungers..even an excuse to attack my favourite TV show Shameless !

Apart fom perfectly normal urges..it would be quite rediculous to blame the moral righteous and distinguished News of The World for promoting this type of thing..their feature on Peaches Geldorf with snaps of every part of her naked anatomy including several boob shots is entirely co-incidental

So this site has turned from defending people's rights to judging people on their looks and social circumstances, and believing every slice of tabloid gossip? Let's not believe anything these kids say, because they are ugly lower class. Let's accuse them of a con to screw money and sympathy out of us, because they are ugly lower class. That's how all of them behave. It reminds me of the old bigot in 12 Angry Men who thought the kid from the slums must be guilty because "Not one of them is any good!"

If Chantelle was a beautiful talented young singer, and Alfie was a popular kid actor, I bet they'd be defended to the hilt on here.

Well, I'll stand up for our original priciples. There's no evidence of any older person having had their way with the girl. No claims that lots of boys slept with her until this story hit the headlines. Only low tabloid-ish suggestion that there could be anything ingenuine about this story. So, I'm not going to judge them (the way JK was judged) on circumstance, hearsay or prejudice. That would be a disgrace.

I think the scandal is that The Sun carried the story at all; true or false, none of that really matters, what matters is that a tabloid deliberately created a story which incites children to have illegal sex and produce babies in order to earn money, fame and notoriety.

That is what is disgusting and, I think, criminal.

Someone should make an official complaint against The Sun to the police.

Either we have an age of consent or we dont. Therefore they should all be prosecuted. End of. I am sick and tired of people making excuses for breaking the law.

For each person who has been locked up because of the "under age sex" rules - this whole case is a further kick in the teeth. Either the law applies to EVERYONE or NO ONE. The Police seem to use the law as a POLITICAL WEAPON. They chase innocent people around on false allegations then when they have HARD EVIDENCE ( like a baby ) they run squealing in the opposite direction saying they cant or wont do anything.
