Had this happened in say a bar room spat he'd have probally been let go with a caution.
Well done to a brave man who echoed the feeling of a lot of people,even if it was at the expense of his own liberty.

Staggering isn't it? Illegally attack a country...maim and kill thousands of innocent people...beat, torture and imprison those who so much raise a shoe in protest.
Then the US wonder why it is the most hated nation on earth.
Obama! Time to step in and pardon the shoe thrower please. You were full of righteousness and forgiveness at the inauguration, now's the time to show it!

at the time geaorge w said it was far better to protest with shoes than bombs or words to that effect,probably the most intelligent he said in the 8 years of his presidency

...in an Iraqi court cravenly crawling to the US admnistration pulling the strings.
Personally, I wouldn't like to be the judge that handed down the sentence. Several of the guards accused of beating him up have had second thoughts and have asked to be moved out of sight.
He will emerge from prison a hero with a certain career back in the media.
